The Navy's delayed new aircraft carrier is facing a morale crisis, it has been claimed, as sailors 'abandon ship' because they are bored.
In the last few weeks, around 21 sailors have quit aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth - the largest and most powerful warship ever built for the Royal Navy - amid claims morale has dropped "to an all-time low".
A "continuous line" of personnel are reportedly resigning from the £3.1 billion ship - which has not yet begun sea trials originally planned for the spring - because of "dull" conditions onboard.

It has been claimed sailors are being forced to work longer hours and weekends without rest and people aren't being released to go on resettlement courses prior to leaving the navy as they can't be replaced.
Sailors wishing to change jobs within the navy have also had applications to leave the ship declined and are therefore resigning from the force entirely to pursue careers elsewhere.
A retired commander said setbacks to projects onboard have impacted morale and said sailors' lives would be be "dull" and they will be "getting fed up and depressed" while living onboard in Rosyth, Scotland.
The resignations have led to senior officers on the ship, which has had a crew of 700 on board since May 2016, speaking with those quitting to find out why and what lessons can be learnt.
The impressive 65,000-ton carrier, capable of carrying up to 40 aircrafts, is due to begin sea trials this summer before it completes its first voyage to its home in Portsmouth, Hampshire, in autumn. It had been due to undertake sea trials in the spring.

When did Soldiers and Sailors start deciding where and when they want to work out of boredom?!?!
Working on an aircraft carrier may be dangerous, difficult, challenging, exhausting, meticulous, exciting, and demanding.
One thing I have never heard it called is “BORING”.
Ping
Best wishes to the British military that undoubtedly has to put up with as much “horse stuff” as our men and their supporters do.
Hopefully in time this ship will become very successful and contribute mightily to Britain’s defense.
If they are really bored, they can take up the pastime of the bored sailors who would spend YEARS on board a whaling vessel.
No, no, no.....I was talking about SCRIMSHAW, you naughty person, you! /s.
Watched a special on her. Was disappointed. Not nuclear.
Good question. I don’t get it. I thought the military assigns you to a job or military unit, and that’s that. Apparently they have choices. Maybe it’s a British thing.
Is “boredom” a euphemism for “all our officers are Moslem
terrorists” or perhaps, “it is flammable”?
Easily solved, bring back press gangs.
In earlier times....if British soldiers refused to fight.....they were shot. Same with US soldiers under Washington IIRC.
The ship doesn’t operate yet or go anywhere. It has no air wing. They’re stuck in Rosyth forever. Yeah, that could be boring.
I dunno. I once heard an interview with a guy on a carrier whose only job was to stock vending machines.
I think the issue is people are leaving the service.... and this is no longer the era of press gangs so they can do so.
It is currently sitting in port, I would imagine that is a lot more boring than being at sea.
Slow wi-fi?
Longer working hours. Working weekends. From this they are bored? It sounds like they are overworked.
Obviously you haven’t read the article.
Can’t they mop the flight deck or something?
You missed the point.
