Call me crazy, but aren’t food stamps - I dunno - supposed to be for LEGAL immigrants?
The workaround is to have an anchor baby. The baby, a US citizen, gets the food stamps. The parents, illegal aliens, get the checks. So illegals can and do get welfare benefits.
That is why getting rid of the anchor baby provision is so important,

In the meantime let it be known that the “citizen” children will be adopted out and the illegal parents deported. There will be a real stampede for the border then.

Worth repeating. They can work under the table for cash, show little income, and qualify for baby anchor benefits. It’s one of the reasons they have so many kids.

I’d rather we just got rid of the illegal, unconstitutional, economic slavery known as ‘welfare’.
That *ONE* step solves a plethora of ‘issues’ (of govt making), while restoring a good deal of Rights.
Too many solutions not requiring $.01, but getting govt back to its rightful size, role and purpose.

Particularly when they breed like rabbits and produce a mammoth problem for the decent, hard-working taxpayers of this country.
I truly believe that if we were able to cut out all the waste fraud and abuse, coupled with forcing the Federal Government back inside the parameters set forth in the Constitution, that retiring the National Debt would not take all that long.
Here's what the rules should be: Illegals must return to their homes. Period. If they have children born here it's the option of the illegals to take their children with them or leave them here. We won't kidnap these children and we will take care of them if the illegals choose to leave them behind. But either way, the illegals must go home.

Even more important is returning to the original intent of the 14th Amendment and not allowing the courts to bastardize it. The framers and ratifiers of the 14th Amendment never meant for foreigners to come here unlawfully (& therefore not fully subject to our jurisdiction) and have a baby here, granting the baby citizenship.
Senator Jacob Howard clearly spelled out the intent of the 14th Amendment by stating:"Every person born within the limits of the United States, and subject to their jurisdiction, is by virtue of natural law and national law a citizen of the United States. This will not, of course, include persons born in the United States who are foreigners, aliens, who belong to the families of ambassadors or foreign ministers accredited to the Government of the United States, but will include every other class of persons. It settles the great question of citizenship and removes all doubt as to what persons are or are not citizens of the United States. This has long been a great desideratum in the jurisprudence and legislation of this country."
This understanding was reaffirmed by Senator Edward Cowan, who stated:
"[A foreigner in the United States] has a right to the protection of the laws; but he is not a citizen in the ordinary acceptance of the word..."
The phrase "subject to the jurisdiction thereof" was intended to exclude American-born persons from automatic citizenship whose allegiance to the United States was not complete. With illegal aliens who are unlawfully in the United States, their native country has a claim of allegiance on the child. Thus, the completeness of their allegiance to the United States is impaired, which therefore precludes automatic citizenship.
We must return to original intent and the rule of law. Then, there will be no such thing as an "anchor" baby.

If it were up to me, the answer would be no for legal immigrants, too. When you come to this country as an immigrant, you are supposed to be able to provide for yourself, not get an immediate ticket onto the public dole. Yes, there are probably a few exceptions, but they should be rare.
And while I’m on a rant, I’d like to see another law limiting welfare that goes on for generation after generation. If you had a parent on welfare (more than very briefly) and a grandparent on welfare (more than very briefly) then you don’t get any. Perhaps an exception if you are childless and sterile. It’s time to break the welfare/poverty cycle.
And ditto to getting rid of the anchor baby scam. No more anchor babies. They should NOT be citizens. No one should be a citizen unless their parents are both legal citizens or they go through the appropriate procedures legally (which include a test for English proficiency, proof that they are self-supporting, and proof that they are not carrying any serious diseases.)
Anchor babies. THAT NEEDS TO END. At least HALF of the illegal immigration traffic would stop.
