According to the fiscal analyst, income-tax collections declined this year for the first time since the recession due to lower earnings at the top. Many wealthy residents decamped for lower-tax states after Mr. Malloy and his Republican predecessor Jodi Rell raised the top individual rate on more than $500,000 of income to 6.99% from 5%.
In the past five years 27,400 Connecticut residents, including Ms. Rell, have moved to no-income-tax Florida, and seven of the states eight counties have lost population since 2010. Population flight has depressed economic growthConnecticuts real GDP has shrunk by 0.1% since 2010as well as home values and sales-tax revenues.
The Governora slow learnerseems finally to have accepted that raising taxes on the wealthy is a dead fiscal end. Democrats are now proposing higher taxes on tobacco, expanding casinos and eliminating some tax breaks, though they dont want to touch an exemption for teacher pensions. The state teachers union warns that axing the exemption would impel retired teachers to relocate. A quarter of pension checks are currently sent out of state.

including Ms. Rell, have moved to no-income-tax Florida,
The ex governor moved to Florida...must be going to get a lot worse
When you give these marxists more of your money they’ll just give it to slobs who vote to keep them in power. The lazy slobs have realized that they can vote themselves more money. The normal people have realized that they are working to give money to the slobs who vote democrat and can’t do anything about it as long as they are under the rule of marxists like malloy.
Great. Now they will go and F up Florida even more. These idiots vote for free stuff non stop then get mad when they have to pay for it. Then move to another state. Then get mad there isn’t enough free stuff so they vote to get more free stuff. Then they have to pay for it and the cycle starts. See Oregon and Washington. Infested with Bay Area Californians complaining already and moving to my neck of the woods in Idaho.
What the heck?? A former governor of Connecticut moved to another state???
And it just so happened to be a no state income tax state??? Very interesting..........
When deciding to move, did Ms. Rell and family take taxes into consideration??? Just wondering.
[and seven of the states eight counties have lost population since 2010.]
And replaced by illegal aliens on the teat.
and Aetna is leaving...
sad.
Have had relatives who have worked there five and six generations ago.
You work your way up to 500000 and they take it away from you BECAUSE you’re making it.
Without exception, Democrat-controlled states (i.e., states controlled by the Left) are desperate nearly beyond words for money to fund their utopian dreams.
Funny how another ex-governor didn’t leave cause he couldn’t get enough time behind bars.
Now I support Rowland but he should have been smart enough to get out while he was a free man.
And with the RATs, never a thought given to cutting spending, because they know that the minute they exhibit any fiscal responsibility and “their voters” understand that that means a cessation in their individual gravy trains, they will loose interest in voting for them. The good news is that hard-working people are voting with their feet, and with their departures, goes the means for the RATs to continue spending “other people’s money.” The “other people’s money” having moved to saner venues. But the faster that occurs, the sooner places like CT can experience a rebirth. Plus the illegal trash won’t stay if they don’t get public assistance and their jobs cleaning houses and mowing lawns go away.
“Great. Now they will go and F up Florida even more. “
Not going to help Florida, because Florida is the state that sucks harder on the Federal Tit than ANY OTHER STATE IN THE UNION. Essentially, Florida lives off of the rest of the country. And you just have to wonder just where everyone is going to “move to” to get a decent life. Seems to me that moving simply shows that a lot of people are not willing to stand up for what made America Great. You can run, but you can’t really hide from the realities of where this country is today. The can cannot be kicked down the road any further.
Well I left New York State in 1980...37 years and it is as bad as ever...thanks to NYC democrats....
I left because they was no work
Denver was a boom town in 1980 compared to New York State

That’s not the case here in the SF Bay Area. Plenty of jobs at excellent pay ( in part due to the Silicon Valley), so the only thing that’s putting pressure on people to move is actually the problem getting around. We live about 50 miles from Stanford Hospital ( Palo Alto). I have had it take two or more hours if my wife’s doctor’s visit isn’t mid-day. Twenty years ago, I worked in Palo Alto and was able to make the same commute in less than an hour. Facebook and Google and some of the rest of the big Valley companies are now providing executive bus service to and from SF for their employees. I understand they even serve meals on board. And of course the other problem for a lot of us is the total control of the state by the DemoRATs. The only good news there is that they are trying to go over a cliff with spending, and we are seeing signs that people are finally catching on to them.
NYS is a heavily taxed state except for the TEACHERS.....their gilded pensions are sacred...
funny how they seek out the better places to live after creating their own cess pool.
