Not to be too flippant, but, do teenage kids do tasks such as cutting grass anymore?? Kudos to those who are. What about paper boys? Are they still around? At least in some big cities I am familiar with, the newspapers delivery people are adult men who cover huge territories using trucks and vans to do the deliveries. As opposed to a kid on a bicycle covering just his neighborhood.

A city ordinance in Gardendale, Ala. State and local government and law is squarely in the hands of the people. It is up to the citizens of Gardendale, Ala. to change this ridiculous law and their representatives if necessary.

My take is the four largest landscaping companies in the area got together and made a rather large donation to the city council.

I assume that some sleazy lawn service donated cash to a sleazy democrat in office. The goal was to cut kids out of the business and reduce competition. Democrats and corrupt crony capitalists disgust me. A decent businessman would offer a better looking lawn, more precision in edging or whatever, or some other real incentive, instead of calling big government thugs to enforce their monopoly:
“Nice college fund you got kid, it’d be a shame if something happened to it.”

Some of those conniving evil homeowners and renters are trying to steal money from the lawn service companies by sneakily paying a kid cash to mow the lawn. There needs to be a law requiring every owner to have a contract with a lawn service company for which the city/county/state needs to set minimum fees and large fines to owners who sneak around the law by getting the kid next door to cut the grass..

This illustrates the shortcomings of the legal positivism under which we live. The power of the state is turned into nothing more than a proxy for established lawn care services who seek to oppress these “upstarts.”

I guess shoveling snow is out, too? They should hurry up and make that the law, asap, just in case it snows — in Alabama.

My brother, who has more money than sense, happily pays a “lawn service” $110 a month in Noo Awlins to mow his postage-stamp-size lawn in Uptown. Any enterprising kid could do the work in 10 minutes every two weeks - but there are none such in that area.

They’re protecting some big donors, no doubt. I wonder if this can be challenged. It is undoubtedly unethical.

I wonder how many of the “legit” businesses have illegals working for them....
Might be an opportunity to call ICE. (Hint: If they all speak Spanish, and one speaks broken English, it’s a good chance that they are illegals and don’t belong in the country).
