Daylight Saving Time was first applied in a uniform fashion across the U.S. in 1966. States can exempt themselves from the law Arizona and Hawaii have done so but cannot impose the seasonal change year-round.I don't understand.

Idiots ... just one more change to wreck havoc with all businesses.

They can opt out but can’t decide to be DST all year (which IIRC we had in the 80s?)

Okay, I’ll bite. How does doing away with bi-annual time changes hurt businesses?

A farmer once told me
The cows don’t get up an hour earlier or an hour later.

it certainly does! It’s that extra hour of daylight that does it.

I am in favor of getting rid of Daylight Savings Time. I dislike the twice yearly time change.
To: BenLurkin
Pick one and leave it that way year around.
This 4 months of one time and 8 months of another is ridiculous. Each day still has the same 24 hours. Let businesses, schools, etc., adjust if they want to open or close an hour earlier some months of the year.

Gee, this is disturbing; I hate DST. But Kalifornia has been off the rails for most of my lifetime.

Count me in favor. An extra hour of daylight in the late afternoon means safer runs, walks and bike rides for us outdoors fitness types.

I for one would prefer Standard Time. At least it tries to be based on where the sun actually is in the sky. (But I live very close to 90 degrees—the basis for Central Standard Time).

I am not disagreeing with you, because there needs to be consistency. But Day Light Savings Time has passed its expiration date. Some days I get up early for a business call in Europe and some days I work late because of a business call to Asia. Electricity has removed the reason for Day Light Savings Time.

I did that seven years ago when I retired, always thought the whole time change thing was ridiculous anyway.

I realized my cats would never figure out DST, so I feed them at the same sun time all year around. They know when mealtime comes. They come and pester me until I feed them.
To: jeannineinsd
I agree. DST is just stupid.
