Washington (CNN)The Pentagon on Tuesday will for the first time test its ability to shoot down an intercontinental ballistic missile using its own upgraded long-range interceptor missile in what is being widely seen as a test of US ability to counter a North Korean missile launch.
The test, which will take place in the skies over the Pacific Ocean, comes just two days after Pyongyang fired a short-range ballistic missile that traveled an estimated 248 miles, splashing down within Japan's exclusive economic zone.
In a Monday tweet, President Donald Trump joined the leaders of South Korea and Japan in condemning the test, saying

North Korea begins designs for Anti-anti-ballistic missile system. /s
Let’s remember to thank President Reagan for starting us off on this in spite of ridicule and obstruction from DemocRATS.
I did it’s a test. More like a display of a small % of what we can do.
Did= doubt
This whole North Korea business is a front for Russia and China. They’re getting the Norks to do their dirty work for them. They want us to reveal capabilities we don’t want seen and use them up stopping Fat Boy’s shenanigans so there’ll be nothing left to use on Russia and China when they decide to get stupid.
Maybe, but systems have to be tested and this will be the 18th test. Currently this system is 9/17, not very good, that said this is a non-trivial problem. Hitting a vehicle on reentry from low space is like hitting a small bug with a bb from two miles.
All the US has to do is have a successful test. They brag about it and announce they are upgrading their offensive weaponry as a counter strike should another missile be fired from enemy shores.
That will get everyone to the table.

Correct. They are quite happy to let Kim continue provoking his neighbors in the region, and by extension, the United States. Meanwhile, they watch, learn and prepare. So they have no reasons to stop him. If they wanted to check him, they would have done it long ago.
The North Korean menace is not just a regional problem; this rogue state can transfer deadly technology to other countries.
We may be able to shoot down his missiles but we can’t do that indefinitely. At some point we and our allies are going to have to accept the reality of a swift and decisive military action against him. In this world, only power gets respect and results.

HOWEVER, it takes a lot of time to plan a complex operation like this, to gather the appropriate forces and to train them. This is not going to be a walk-over like Iraq - these guys DO have nukes, and a leader that everyone thinks is just crazy enough to use - maybe on Seoul, maybe on Tokyo, maybe on various US bases in the area, maybe on ALL of them. Plus, NK has about 10,000 artillery tubes pointed at Seoul, a city of roughly 10 million people. Even after a decapitation strike, even after attacking their Command, Control, Communications and Intelligence (C3I), I’m pretty certain that they have fail-safe procedures to have forward units (and, perhaps, their entire armed forces) launch revenge attacks if they can’t communicate with the command authorities...meaning that we will then be fighting a second Korean War. Geez, even Iraq in ‘91 required 6 weeks of air (and, presumably, cyber) attacks before we sent in the Army - and Hussein didn’t have nukes, or any real ability to hurt anyone more than about 30 miles from his forces. NK is different, VERY different. You don’t just launch an operation like that - it takes months to prepare, even with existing contingency plans.
here's a page that descripes the viewing range of launches.
I agree with you. Its going to be a very complex and dicey operation.
We are in the process of deploying three carriers to the region but even that preparatory move is just a start. Its going to take quite awhile to get all the pieces and logistics in place. Add the complexity of Japan and South Korean to the mix and things get exponentially more complicated. And, there’s an election coming up in 2018 so the political calculus comes into play.
Given the proximity of Seoul the potential for massive casualties in very real. So, any strike would have to be swift and decisive. No time for a shock and awe show; only a sweeping, disabling obliteration of Kim’s military assets will work. And an operation of that scale and severity would be unprecedented. No easy day.
I’ve got my fingers crossed it will go off smoothly.
Thanks, csvset!
I hope those who see this will call their representatives and ask them to join Congressman Babin in support of our heroes like Derrick Miller!
