Zbigniew Brzezinski, National Security Adviser to Jimmy Carter, Dies at 89
NY Times ^ | 5/26/2017 | DANIEL LEWIS

Posted on 05/26/2017 7:50:23 PM PDT by Carriage Hill

Zbigniew Brzezinski, the hawkish strategic theorist who was national security adviser to President Jimmy Carter in the tumultuous years of the Iran hostage crisis and the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in the late 1970s, died on Friday at a hospital in Virginia. He was 89.

His death, at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, was announced on Friday by his daughter, Mika Brzezinski, a co-host of the MSNBC program “Morning Joe.”

Like his predecessor Henry A. Kissinger, Mr. Brzezinski was a foreign-born scholar (he in Poland, Mr. Kissinger in Germany) with considerable influence in global affairs, both before and long after his official tour of duty in the White House. In essays, interviews and television appearances over the decades, he cast a sharp eye on six successive administrations, including that of Donald J. Trump, whose election he did not support and whose foreign policy, he found, lacked coherence.

“Hawkish”? Gave away the farm during his tenure (Panama, Iran) and helped establish an Iranian terrorist regime and they call him hawkish?

He was a complete failure.

No loss, I hope Hillary joins him soon. The world is a little better today because he’s gone from it. It will be a LOT better when Hillary joins him in Hell.

Which means he couldn’t have been all bad.

"I've learn to hate the Russians all through my whole life."

Dylan really meant the Soviets. "Russians" was just a slightly ignorant substitution.

I don't hate the Russians. The ones I've gotten to know are all good people. They hated the Soviets too. I don't know for sure, but my guess is that most or all have a low opinion of Zbig. And maybe that's why he didn't like Russians. They knew who he was.

The thought of Joe marrying Mika was just too big of a shock to his system.

Any doubts I had about Elvis being alive ended the day his daughter married Michael Jackson.

There is a WWII vet in Austin that just turned 111. Smokes cigars and drinks hard liquor every day.

So, there's hope for me.

I always considered Zbigniew Brzezinsk Henry Kissinger Lite.
This guy wanted to do anything to outdo Kissinger and he didn’t. He presided over a Foreign Policy that was a disaster. Carter just never appointed him Secretary of State and as a result this guy was always in Kissinger’s shadow.

Love him or hate him, in his time Dr. Kissinger was the man.

Polish folks who have a vowel deficit buy their vowels from Italian folks who have a vowel surplus.

Not many Polish operas!

He was hard line anti-Communist whose advice to Carter was frequently ignored. RIP.

Jesus Christ, rest the soul of Thy Servant Zbigniew with the saints.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, amen.

The worldwide level of stupidity and wrongheadedness has just dropped a tenth of a percentage point. So many more continue to keep it up.
