Winning narrowly in safe red seats is a bad sign. Greg Gianforte’s 7 percentage point win in the Montana special election keeps a seat in Republican hands, but fundamentally represents bad news for the GOP.

They have Trump for 4 years, so their best hope is to lose the house and/or senate in 2018 and they can go back to doing nothing and blaming the democrats. Every R victory increases expectations of Rs acting conservative and Ryan/McTurtle showing some leadership so this is bad news.

A landslide is generally 10% or more, but this is a solid win in a special election. They are quirkier than a general election and the Dems, as the opposition, should have had their biggest turnout percentage compared to the total turnout.
They were clearly beaten, this is not good for them, the conventional wisdom is that the wind is at their backs. I don’t see it.
With the libertarian getting 6% that no-way would ever go for the ‘Rat, the good guys won by 7% + 6% or 13%.
13% is a landslide any way you look at it.
The inevitability of Democrats winning should be a worn-out message by now. It only works when low-energy Rinos believe it.
