Middlebury College has disciplined 67 students after its investigation into the disruption of a March 2 lecture by controversial author Charles Murray, the school announced Tuesday.
The sanctions range "from probation to official college discipline, which places a permanent record in the students file," the school said in a statement.
Murray attempted to lecture in the McCullough Student Center about his 2012 book, Coming Apart. Murray is better known for his 1994 book, The Bell Curve, which sought to correlate social inequality to genetics. The Southern Poverty Law Center has labeled his work "racist pseudoscience."

A slap on the wrist for a violent shut down of a lecture. They’ll certainly keep doing it seeing as how there’s no consequences.
They assaulted and put a female tenured professor in a neck brace. NO ONE was expelled??
Conservatives should pool there money and form an organization that will pay for bodyguards (preferably armed) to support freedom of speech.
I’d like to see what these punk’s reaction is when they try to assault a speaker and a bodyguard pulls out a Glock or an Uzi.
And yet again the SPLC is cited as if they are an unbiased and judicious source of quality news. They were FAKE NEWS before it was fake!
You know it isn’t serious when they waited until classes are almost over and no one’s ability to graduate or apply for another program is affected.
Double secret probation?
A total of eight masked people among more than 20 people in the crowd used "tactics that indicated training in obstruction and intimidation," police said.
Middlebury Police on Tuesday said that no one will be charged with a crime stemming from the incident "due to insufficient evidence against any specific individual."
Perhaps, Wikileaks needs the 67 names.
That's how the Liberals tried to portray it at least.
The "punishment" really isn't anything more than that.

The students were punished by having a letter placed in their file which will be removed when they graduate. If they riot again in the future "they may be subject to official college discipline" [italics added].
I also saw this question on another website: Why, after the initial reaction in the auditorium, did they move Murray to a closed room for streaming? College faculty should have known it wasn't safe seeing the temperature of the room, that it would be a slap-in-the-face to the protesters, and a cold way to silence them.
Apparently, the college administration failed to take into account the delicate nature of the protesters who simply wanted to follow Mr. Murray into a room where they were not invited to continue harassing him.
I hope that the unexpected harshness of the school administration's actions does not cause anyone to lose sleep.
