Britain Condemns US Officials For Leaking Intelligence On Manchester Terror Attack

• Several key details about the investigation into the Manchester terror attack were leaked to the media by US officials.

• The Home Secretary suggests the "operational integrity" of the investigation was at risk.

• British officials have expressed their "irritation" to the US.

• Trump administration has come under scrutiny for leaks of confidential intelligence.

LONDON — Home Secretary Amber Rudd condemned US officials for risking the "operational integrity" of the ongoing investigation into the Manchester terror attack, after they leaked confidential details to the US media before they had been confirmed by British police.

Business Insider reported on Tuesday how several key details on the attacker's identity had made their way onto US news channels — potentially compromising the ongoing investigation.

American news outlets confirmed that the information on Salman Abedi had been passed to them by US officials.

The Home Secretary Amber Rudd told the Today programme that she was irritated by the leaks.

"The British police have been very clear that they want to control the flow of information in order to protect the operational integrity, the element of surprise, so it is irritating if it gets released from other sources and I have been very clear with our friends that that should not happen again," she said.

When asked whether the leaks had "compromised" the investigation, she replied: "I wouldn't go that far," but added: "I can say that they are perfectly clear about the situation and that it shouldn't happen again."

If these disclosures were unauthorized, the leaker(s) should face the consequences. But, if the information was to be held to deceive the public, those consequences should be a medal and parade.

My bet is that the Brits didn’t specifically request the information be held closely, and now are upset because the Trump administration does not actively downplay the muslim connection like Obama’s admin did.

You know, I don’t really read the Daily Mail because it has too many pop ups - so many I can barely read the text. So she was fired?

She’s a regular on Tucker.

His clearly Arabic name, for one. They wanted to cover up the whole thing. They were calling the bombing an “explosion” of undetermined origin (after the popping balloon theory didn’t work) until the wounded blew the whole thing for them by starting to blab.

She's an excellent columnist. And the reason I read the DM . But there has been a real shift in the reportage at the paper, very similar to what's going on at FNC. And it started soon after the Sky deal was approved by the EU. Unless they plan to keep Hopkins on as a token, which I doubt, I think she'll be gone soon. Only question is will she go quietly? If she does go, I hope she gives them hell on the way out.

Still a case of government out of control for us.

If it came from John McCain, I wouldn't blink an eye.

I cannot believe folks on this forum are justifying leaks of intel thereby compromising an investigation. And now!? Have you all gone mad?

Right, that's the problem Home Secretary Amber Rudd needs to be worrying about - not the fact that her nation now hosts a major terrorist event every month or two, but rather the fact that someone revealed the Muslim terrorist.

At heart, all statists are propagandists, and crises are simply opportunities to advance the Big State narrative - for such people, anyone who spoils the narrative is the real problem.

They’re just mad because they didn’t get time to develop a story that shifts at least part of the blame to white racists who still, somehow, make up a majority of the country.

Well maybe the Brits shouldn’t have helped Obama spy on candidate Trump.

So secret information about the latest terrorist attack is leaked in days by US intelligence agencies, but we can’t find any evidence of Russia and Trump colluding in all most a year. Thinking logically sure sucks doesn’t it !

That’s a GREAT piece of information to get out. Unless you’re a terrorist puppeteer. Far from a fix, but I bet it will discourage a lot of terrorist “helpers” who have no idea they are about to “volunteer” to be a suicide bomber.

If it was the piece of info about the guy being a mule. I can understand why they didn’t want it released until they nabbed the real trigger man.

not the fact that her nation now hosts a major terrorist event every month or two

Bit of hyperbole there. Since the London Tube bombings 12 years ago, there have been three terrorist attacks in the UK resulting in fatalities - the Lee Rigby killing, the Westminster Bridge attack earlier this year, and this. The Manchester bomb is the first Muslim terrorist killing anywhere outside London. The number of fatalities is significantly less than in the US over the same period.

In the meantime the British police and MI5, currently the object of much derision here on FR, have had multiple successes in preventing attacks - over 90 convictions for planning acts of terrorism in the last three years alone.

I am appalled that anyone here thinks leaking of this information is ok. Investigators control the release of information because they are watching suspected individuals and groups trying to figure out which one's jump with which new piece of information.

It is hardly an inside deeply held secret that this is a principal investigative technique used around the world. Why anyone here would justify the same deep stater's leaking to the newspapers is beyond me. I am flabbergasted by what I read here, just utterly astounded, since Russiagate is not yet in its grave.

Perspective and rationality not wanted here. Our friends and colleagues are consumed by their anti-Brit feeding-frenzy.
