He died as he lived - bragging about stuff no one cares about. RIP

Pointless exercise in ego. “I climbed Mt. Everest.” Yea, well so did some dude in a wheelchair and a guy with prosthetic legs and a 90 year old lady. Hopefully, no guides were harmed in this experiment.

*shrug*

You puts your bets and you takes your chances.

Adios and prayers for your family who have to live with your suicidal notions of risk.

No real sympathy here.

Notwithstanding catastrophic failure of equipment or snow packs causing death, hypoxia causes you to do strange things, such as walking into the void thinking it is a step. They finally found Mallory but others just disappear.

I didn't read the story, but do they still leave most frozen bodies up there? It used to be too difficult and expensive to retrieve them. I saw a documentary where they use them as way points. 😨

Joe: “Hey, it’s freezing cold and extremely dangerous and some of the climbers die and are never found again.”

Jack: “Awesome. Let’s go dude. Here’s my $11,000.”

Somehow I don’t see myself doing this. I love adventuring, but I hate the cold.

"Into Thin Air" is a fascinating read. Many of these jerks are literally dragged to the top by the Sherpas, putting the lives of others at risk, so they can go home, pound their chests and brag that they "climbed" Everest.

Interestingly, the US doctor who just died almost died in an avalanche after the 2015 earthquake. He had made the summit previously, so he wasn't even doing it for bragging rights this time. So many people have now gotten to the top that it doesn't seem like such an impressive accomplishment anymore.

Who gives “a rat’s ass” about them.

Spoiled rich trying to climb a big rock so that they can say they did it. Worse yet, costing the locals a fortune in rescue efforts when something goes wrong.

I would suggest that they go “volcano diving” next time.

Why don’t these people take the back stairs?
It is far easier as the stairs have hand rails.....
