DENVER (CBS4) -Gov. John Hickenlooper has issued a pardon to Rene Lima-Marin, a man convicted of armed robbery, sentenced to 98 years in prison, mistakenly released early, then placed back in prison after six years and taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement on the day his family expected him to be ultimately released.

Lima-Marin came to the U.S. from Cuba when he was 1 year old. He never applied for citizenship but U.S. relations with Cuba allowed him to stay. That continued until Lima-Marin was convicted of armed robbery and flagged for deportation in 2000.

Haven’t. heard much out of the ChickenPooper in a while.
He should be held responsible for all the vagrants in Durango these days.
Coloradans ought to be real proud of him. /s

There is a serious sickness in this country. The lengths these cretins will go to to protect illegals is insane.

This is a bipartisan issue here. This guy was mistakenly released early several years ago. He got married had kids, supports his family and has been a model citizen ever since. It would make no sense to send him back to prison.

There was a resolution in the legislature supporting his release that almost every if not every legislator supported.

The only reason he was pardoned is because he is an illegal alien. If he were American he would not have been pardoned. Yet another example of illegals getting preferential treatment over American citizens.

He robbed two stores and was sentenced to jail time. Why should he get the chance of a do over but thousands of Americans do not? The answer is because he is here illegally.

“He should be held responsible for all the vagrants in Durango these days.”

Longmont too. They are everywhere! On every corner begging money and at night they go back to the shelters so they can rest up to harass the working people the next day. Oh, and lets don’t forget the bums that get housing vouchers on our dime and come out to bum money for booze and smokes.

Does that apply to all felons who don't fulfill their sentences or just illegal aliens?

I could be wrong, but is it even possible to be an illegal from Cuba? It’s my understanding that if they get here feet dry from Cuba than they are automatically granted asylum per Kennedy’s order from 1961 or ‘62. I’m not commenting on any other aspect of this case, simply the reference to him being illegal.

The governor is right

The guy was a Mariel boatlift baby at one years of age from Cuba

He did 8 years in prison for armed robbery...at 19/20 ...two robberies I think...

He is released early after 8 years through no fault of his own...
He should have done about twice that on good behavior ....

He marries and starts a family and works and no hint of a continued life of crime

Now someone discovers he as an unmerited early release and since he never bothered to get his green card since he came at 1 years old from a refugee status nation at that time....he could be deported

Nope...
I’m with the governor

Course I’ll be in the minority here

Prison and probation authorities do on occasion make mistakes stamped by judges which save prisoners time

Unless found out quickly they are most often forgotten

That’s the facts folks ...do we have any criminal lawyers or prosecutors here

A friend of mine ..maybe my best....12 years ago in a notorious south Florida jurisdiction was facing supervised release violation for not paying enough percentage to half way house....25% of gross....he was rich....technically he was under one year house arrest already

Anyhow ...he was supposed to get 6 months federal time and start his five years supervised release over again....five years

He got the 6 months but when he got out they timed out his supervised release based on older law and he had no more paper even though he really had to start the five years again

His lawyer said be quiet and let’s ride this out....and he did ...stamped and done...free and no probation terms

Now if all these years later if someone finds that could they redo it..
Prolly not from what I know

You and me against the herd likely

Freepers love their torches and pitchforks

Some here would have simply favored executing him for the original crime if they are being honest

Freepers are two things

Very very risk averse....they love to mock folks who die mountain climbing or sky diving or racing etc or stupid kid pranks...

And they love and I mean truly adore fantasizing giving out jail time like candy

It’s scold culture pretty much

God love em

Armed robbery and the Ctrl-Left still wants to keep him? That makes sense. Even with the pardon, he’s still a criminal, so he’ll be a reliable democrat voter for life - and probably longer.

It’s not a scold culture. And you are advocating lawlessness in your post. The man was convicted of a much more serious crime than not paying his bill at a half way house.

Now we are supposed to let a man justly convicted go free just because he married and had children.

Righteousness comes in many forms. Yours is an insult to people who respect the law and culture it foments. Once we start going down this path there is no going back. People will come to realize that they can get away with more and more and then where will we be?

I was wrong he’s been in jail 11 years so far

He’s older law Colorado sentencing where he could feasibly satisfy a 98 year sentence in 15-20

States used to load up time cause it sounded good

Now they have min mans requiring usually two thirds minimum but you don’t hear of these loud 98 year sentences

It’ll be up to 24 usually and then goes to life and natural life

The real question is would Hickendoper and the legislature have fought for this guy if he was a white male citizen?
