There is no amount of money or humanitarian aid that will “fix” a socialist hell hole like Venezuela. The people will have to revolt and create a new constitution and representative government that respects private property rights.

Sorry, yes, we should cut off the current government, close their oil sales, and starve out the current government and politicians. The locals can’t get hurt any worse. But who replaces them? Oil is fungible. Someone will buy it. Of course, they don't seem to be capable of even maintaining their refining infrastructure, supply chain, grid, etc. Cuba has managed to cling on for a while, but thankfully, Venezuela is not an island. Brazil isn't much better, but Colombia co0mparatively has its act together (despite narcowars), and they have a vested interest in the collapse of the regime.

The President needs to make a Public Plea to the Millions of University Students and Bernie supporters who proudly proclaim their socialism, to go to Venezuela on behalf of the American People and show them how their beloved Socialism is supposed to work.

They should be jumping at the chance.

NO NO NO. We must stay out of that hellhole. "Whatever is necessary" would mean taking down the Maduro regime. We don't need any big new commitments and we don't need the morass of Venezuela. Terrible situation, but it is NOT our problem to solve.

Then you give food away, it puts the farmers out of business, and then you perpetuate the cycle of dependency on foreign aid. That is what has happened to Haiti. You have to support building infrastructure, not just dumping free food on them.

The first priority is to keep the people who can change the situation alive. Then worry about farmer’s businesses and infrastructure later.
