Send a Proven Conservative Leader to the Senate
Mo Brooks is a proven conservative leader. He's stood up to overspending and bad border policy in Washington at every turn. Now we need you to help him take that fight to the Senate.
Formal announcement to be made later this morning.
Alabama ping.
I’m definitely in. I hope he wins the seat.
For those who came in late: this is the Alabama seat in the Senate that was vacated by Jeff Sessions’ appointment as Attorney General.
Governor Bentley appointed state of Alabama atty general Luther Strange to fill the seat until a special election coule be held - and then didn’t call for one. Strange’s appointment was curious at best, given the lagging investigation into the GOvernor’s legal and moral issues that Strange was suppoed to be spear-heading.
Bentley resigned under fire and threat of imminent impeachment in April. New Governor Kay Ivey wasted no time in calling for that special Senate election, which is now set for August 15.
Candidates declared - other than Brooks - all GOP:
- Randy Brinson (AL Christian coalition president)
- Dom Gentile (businessman... no political exp)
- Ed Henry (generally good guy; was early on the Trump stump)
- Roy Moore (yes, that Roy Moore)
- Strange
Other potentials: Martha Roby, Bradley Byrne, Robert Aderholt
There are 4 declared Rat candidates... they don’t really have a shot, IMHO.
I am supporting Brooks.
Thank you for adding the back story. Great summary.
Brooks is an anti-Tump guy. Fought against trump all through the primaries up through a few days before the election.
Here is my point: Trump is highly popular throughout the state and because Brooks was (is) anti-Trump, he cannot win a statewide election.
Who do you think will win?
This was lining up to be a Strange vs. Moore showdown, but Brooks is definitely a wildcard in the mix. Now it is a three man race.
No problem ... hopefully it can be deciphered despite my terrible typing!
Moore will pull in a small but loyal percentage of the state, but his well has been poisoned with a lot of people and that may be too much for him to overcome.
Brooks is a wildcard -- he is a U.S. Congressman but outside of his northern Alabama district he is not a well known quantity statewide. So he will be fighting a name recognition battle against Strange and Moore.
The rest of the R field is not well known, and no matter how much chest pounding might be done, the D candidates have no chance what-so-ever.
Right now I say it is Strange's race to lose, Moore will make noise but I don't see him overcoming the stigma of twice being removed from the state court, and Brooks will be fighting a recognition battle in the southern part of the state.
Great guy. Fantastic on immigration.
So who makes the GOP runoff? Guessing Roy Moore will as he plays the persecuted crusader angle. He is already 70 years old, but I don't believe that will be a hindrance.
The second runoff slot could be a dogfight between Mo and Strange. Mo's been gaining on name recognition, but he will have some trouble in South Alabama.
I want Strange gone... if it comes down to Moore and Strange, the media will destroy Moore. If it's Brooks vs. Moore, then they will destroy the entire state. That would be fun.
Again, good insight. Mo has some money as well, as he has $1.5M left over from his last campaign that he can use for this run.
I won’t be disappointed either way if it is Moore vs. Brooks in a run-off.
Luther Strange.
Do you think he can overcome the taint of the Bentley appointment?
Thanks for pinging me. I’ll have to think about this one.
I have heard radio interviews with him quite a few times and have always liked him. He seems down to earth and a solid conservative fighting the good fight.
I say that with nothing necessarily against Luther Strange and the other candidates at this point. It will take more homework to check all of them out.
HELL no on Martha Roby!
She went from TEA Party suckup in 2010 to full RINO, and went so far as to have a PUBLIC press conference to denounce Trump when the Grab’em by the Pussy (locker room talk) tape came out.
NO F’n way beeyotch!
Hey Bud, how are you!?
You still down the Pike, sorta say?
Yes, he’s more Jeff Sessions than anyone else running.
