But nobody in modern times has lofted a nuke well into the ionosphere and studied the consequences of its detonation.

The concern of the thread is, what if the Norks (or the Iranians) do it for real over the present-day USA?

The laggers’ tests did include microprocessor study samples.

And the results were? Do tell!

Starfish Prime was not the first high-altitude test by the US. There were others, but the results were inconclusive. There was one test, on 31 July 1958, 47 miles above Johnston Island. It was visible from Hawaii for half an hour. HF communication across the Pacific was knocked out. Johnston Island was unable to contact the mainland for eight hours.

EMP is what I’m most concerned about when it comes to NK. The fat f—k is pure evil. The entire country needs to be a be a pile of rubble. Collateral damage should not be a concern in this case. At this point it’s them or us.

Which is a separate phenomenon from EMP destroying integrated circuitry. The IC destroyer is a single event (called E1) that happens in an instant and affects all devices whether plugged in or not; ionospheric disruption that persists as you describe does not destroy all circuitry but only disrupts long range radio communication. That’d be E3. E2 is the effect that produces a surge in power lines and attached devices and is one of the easiest to deal with. E3 really only affects radio communications and large power transformers.

Re: Results: Don’t know, I don’t read Chinese. I’ve not seen any results in English.

Dear Little Kimmy:

Why doesn’t China, Japan and/or Russia just clobber the CFK’s (crazy fat kid) toys on the Launchpad before they even get airborne? Instead of clapping like a seal, he’ll just stand there with his mouth open and think twice before ever doing it again.

At least for a few a months until the gas goes bad.

I have (bought from my folks) a 1999 Ford Triton V-10-Powered RV that has gas sit in it often for 6 months to a year without use or adding new gas to it. It never has a problem firing right up and running.
