Former FBI Director James Comey reportedly told associates in March that President Trump was "crazy" for suggesting former President Barack Obama had wiretapped him.
Comey also called the president outside the realm of normal, according to a report from The New York Times on Wednesday.
The Times said that, in return, Trump was furious when Comey publicly refused to back his claims that he was wiretapped during the 2016 campaign before the House Intelligence Committee in March.
Comey said during the March 20 hearing that the FBI had no information supporting Trumps allegations.
The Times report highlight lingering tensions between the president and Comey.that led Trump to decide to fire the FBI chief on Tuesday, a decision that stunned Washington.
Trump reportedly became increasingly angered by Comeys remarks in the weeks after the March hearing and began discussing his possible firing.
The president told aides there was something wrong with Comey Sunday, two days before his ultimate ouster.
Comey reportedly, though, told associates that he thought Trump was unlikely to fire him, believing his removal would make people revisit how he handled the probe into Hillary Clintons email server in particular the announcement days before the election that they were reopening the investigation. Comey thought that treating his decisions as wrong would call into question Trumps election victory.
Trump fired Comey on Tuesday, with the White House saying he acted on the recommendation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions and his deputy, Rod Rosenstein, who cited the Clinton probe.
Deputy White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Wednesday said Comey committed atrocities in his handling of the Clinton email probe.
Sanders said Comey sidestepped protocol and circumvented the chain of command with his decisions.
Democrats and some Republicans, though, have questioned the timing of Comey's dismissal.
The former FBI director announced in March that the bureau was probing Russias intrusions in the 2016 race, including possible ties between Moscow and Trumps campaign.
Crazy, maybe. Correct - apparently
Crummy was so obviously carrying the water for Hillary, it wasn’t even a question. How could anyone find so many pieces of evidence of her wrongdoing and then fail to indict? This guy was nothing but a liability for Trump and the American people. It was dangerous to have this incompetent, politically driven jerk in charge of such an important agency. It’s the BEST thing for us all to be rid of him.
Ah, another disgruntled ex-employee.

Great nickname, lol.
Only about a million more to go. MAGA!
The only dismissal they wouldn't have questioned was the dismissal by President Hillary Clinton on her first day in office.
Mad Max said as much...................
Wow. No wonder liberals are insanely unhinged by the firing of Comey...he was one of them, and he was wrong, to boot.
Basically he was correct.
He just used an outmoded term to describe the invasion of his private communications.
Comey was/is a puppet of the bammy, Clinton, lynch, holder, democratic cabal. He should have been fired after his announcements in July ‘16 but of course he was doing as he had been directed to do.
Reminds me of the scene in the original Robocop.
Bob Morton is in the bathroom bragging about how he just screwed over his boss (Ronny Cox) Dick Jones .
Suddenly the bathroom gets quiet and everybody leaves, as Ronny Cox steps out of a stall.
A little tête-à-tête takes place.
Later Boddicker takes him out.

Crazy comey should end up behind bars with co-conspirators up to and including shrillary and b o.
Comey was a former Board Member of.............THE CLINTON FOUNDATION...........................
That Hill article was click bait. The same BS just rehashed.
“reportedly told associates” = rumors = fake news
enemedia publishes nothing but rumors now, excepting the lies they simply make up out of whole cloth
How could anyone find so many pieces of evidence of her wrongdoing and then fail to indict?
= = =
She was turning her life around.
She was looking forward to finding success as President.
Outmoded term
Yes, as we use ‘tape’ for ‘digital recording’
