The original article:

Oddly enough, for a vehicle designed to be a purpose-built drag racer, the Demon -- as delivered from the factory -- has already been banned from regulated drag strips by that sport's sanctioning body, the National Hot Rod Association, allegedly for being "too fast." M/I>

It was banned for not having a built-in roll cage..............

And ONLY if you have 1/4 mile runs below 10s. Plus, there are already aftermarket cages for the Demon so that you can be NHRA compliant if you want to dip into the nines.

There are dozens of car models with 400 or more hp, or that are otherwise blinding fast in street conditions. This one has no real practical performance advantage over many others not attracting attention.

Being disingenuous is one thing, but that excerpt was an outright lie................

Wait until you run into some one dicking with their cell phone driving a demon. That’ll really piss you off. LOL! State law in NV against it as well. Ignored pretty much everyplace it looks like.

Yes, the author completely misstated the NHRA rules.

This editorial has been updated to make clear the Demon has been banned from regulated drag strips as-is from the factory upon delivery.

Probably NHRA/IHRA regulations require certain safety devices when cars hit certain track times/speeds, which Dodge probably failed to incorporate into its factory drag car. My understanding is this is a sub-10-second car in factory trim. That automatically makes it subject to a whole lot of safety rules, number one being roll cage. It also requires NHRA/IHRA approved safety restraints. It comes with neither from the factory.

Yes, that is correct. The car is banned ‘as-is’ because it has no roll cage, though they can be bought.

The writer of the original story basically lied...................

This press release sounds like the kind of thing written in newspapers at the turn of the 20th century about those scary “automobiles.”

Just hope they don't take innocents with them.

Automotive one-vehicle accident Darwin has been at work a long time. See link below way back in '83. (Lord, I feel like an OLD geezer even writing that!)

Which, BTW, can be had. One would also need an NHRA Competition License to drive and compete with it as it’s faster than 9.90 seconds. But the car is not “totally banned”. It just needs to meet NHRA’s requirements like any other 9.90 second car does....and there are plenty out there, and the driver needs to be appropriately licensed.

While driving the interstate 10 thru Palm Springs, you see a lot of high end cars, Ferrari's, Bently's, Cobras... guess what they are all doing?

The speed limit.
