... Hawking, the renowned theoretical physicist turned apocalypse warning system, is back with a revised deadline. In "Expedition New Earth" a documentary that debuts this summer as part of the BBCs "Tomorrows World" science season Hawking claims that Mother Earth would greatly appreciate it if we could gather our belongings and get out not in 1,000 years, but in the next century or so.
You heard the man a single human lifetime. Is this nerd serious?
Thanks, Steve.

He has become the Glen Beck of physics. Will say any crazy dang thing for more attention. Sad.
Hawking has done some brilliant theoretical work in physics in years gone by, but at 75 is getting a bit dotty. There’s also the question of who is really “speaking”, Hawking or his handlers, as the man himself has very limited ability to communicate due to his medical condition.
Hawking has outlived his life.
I thought about this guy’s ranting. Realized what colonizing another planet would really mean to these people.
It would be a “fresh start,” deliberately excluding all aspects of Christianity from being transferred to the new world. A completely new civilization would be fabricated, minus all the principles that ours is founded on. It would be 100% non-Christian. I can guarantee you of that.
There would be no marriage. Homosexuality, abortion, “euthanasia,” income redistribution would be mandatory. They would transfer all the White guilt thing along with the Black victim thing, and the insane racial hatred would continue on the new planet.
*slam would be the only religion allowed. After years of kissing m*slim a$$, and s*****g m***m d**k, they would be wholly in the service of the insane death cult. They’re insane, so does this surprise you?
(OK, some ranting, but mostly true).
There will be a new Earth, but it won’t be a result of us moving to another planet.
He has come to the conclusion that we need to figure out how we can move the whole planet Earth to this new destination. Then all we have to do is maintain an ideal temperature during the trip so we don't freeze solid on the way.
I think his keepers need to keep a closer eye on him on HIS trip to dementia.
One of his top hits is:
“Since there was no time before the big bang, there could not be and intelligent creator”
Godless slug.
Doesn’t believe in God but believes earth is a ‘mother’ with feelings.
Did he actually say that?
Rather than sending sterile probes to Mars, send some filled with mosses, algae, and beneficial nematodes...

from link:
“... mosses have lots of attributes that facilitate their survival and growth ...:
Low growing: this protects the plants from damage by the almost constant, strong winds that are blowing as well as being the coldest, Antarctica is the windiest continent on the planet.
Slow growing: Antarctic moss banks have historically accumulated at approximately 1 mm per year. This is very slow! However, the mosses do not need to complete their life cycle in a single year as many vascular plants do; indeed the moss banks on Elephant Island have been accumulating almost continuously for over 5000 years. Slow and steady wins the game in Antarctica.
Asexual reproduction: it is too cold for many of the Antarctic moss species to produce spores (the moss equivalent to seeds), so instead the plants spread asexually and new, complete moss plants can often regenerate from a small section of an existing moss plant.
The three body problem series was an interesting read. The universe and local physics actually just being the result of whatever dimensional warfare occurred there was a pretty neat idea.
We will never get off the planet in any real way until we can plan over the course of 100+ years or prolong our lifespans so the people that care about space colonization can continue to work on it for long periods.

He doesn’t always focus on gloom and doom. I understand he is quite the enthusiast for lap dances from strippers.
Probably silly to even talk about but it occurred to me as I read those books that in reality a “Generations Ship” captain will feel pretty silly when he arrives at his destination to be greeted by his great, great, great,...great, grandson who arrived thousands of years ago shortly after the “Generation Ship” left thanks to new technology.
I think this is where we are with humanities “next step”. No one wants to be the guy that sent those generations into space needlessly. So the “ONe step for Mankind” was important and what we are undertaking now is important but the real goal is faster than light. That is the barrier that has to be broken and I read just the other day that the mathematicians say it is possible. Something about accelerating the reality around the ship so “locally” it is not breaking the light barrier.
So the gravitational drive in the book may actually be a possibility. Which is what I loved about the books. The author really does a great job of incorporating the latest knowledge.
...strong winds...
Another misconception from that stupid movie about a Martian potato farmer. Even at 150 mph just how strong of a wind can it be at 5% of the density of our atmosphere? Gentle breeze is more like it.
“...farming on Mars may not remain sci-fi fantasy for very long: The NASA-backed Potatoes on Mars project just grew tubers in Mars-like conditions, suggesting Watney’s feat might be possible.”

If I recall in the 3 body series the use of the FTL drives were like a beacon to anyone paying attention, and everyone powerful enough paid attention just so they could destroy other civilizations as quickly and inexpensively as possible. Pretty grim stuff, one plausible theoretical explanation why we seem to be alone so far.

Not a lot of ‘push’ at 5% of our density...
People only listen to him because they feel sorry for him. Pity is the worst of emotions. I wonder if he can even think clearly anymore?
Without humans, “Mother Earth” does not exist. If we “have to get out” in a century, then there’s no reason to not trash the place first. We own the planet and there is no next tenant.
Another example of scientists jumping into the political bandwagon for attention, fame and accolades.
