NC House Just Passed HB 330 – Allowing Drivers To Legally Hit Protesters Who Block Roads

A new bill has just passed the NC House that would allow North Carolina drivers to legally hit protesters who are blocking the road without being sued, as long as they “exercise due care.”

North Carolina House Bill 330 was passed by a 67-48 vote.

It was introduced by Republican Justin Burr and “provides that a person driving an automobile while exercising due care is immune for civil liability for any injury to another if the injured person was participating in a demonstration or protest and blocking traffic.”

“As we’ve seen, time and time again, as folks run out in the middle of the streets and the interstates in Charlotte and attempt to block traffic,” Burr said. The Republican commented that he wants to ensure that “drivers don’t have to fear driving through Charlotte or anywhere in North Carolina.”

“This bill does not allow for the driver of a vehicle to target protesters intentionally,” he added. “It does protect individuals who are rightfully trying to drive down the road.”

Charlotte saw a number of roads blocked after the death of Keith Lamont Scott and the protests that followed last year.

The bill is now heading to the NC Senate for final approval.

I agree. Lots of ways to deal with this that are sane. Running over liberal elites might be satisfying but it's wrong. Totally and completely wrong.

My only caveat would be if the driver felt he was going to die or be seriously hurt if he didn't drive away... thugs with baseball bats hitting on his car windows etc.

My dad was an Eighth Air Force WWII vet, and delighted himself with teasing me with some of the ways he might not have been around to have seen me born into this world, or even to cause it to come to pass. Bombers then ran ten or twelve-man crews, more-or-less, and of course transports could be carrying even more aboard. Nowadays, the B-1 is crewed with about the same number of crew spaces as a tank, but ELINT birds and transports can still keep the numbers at a high risky level.

And of course there's another way an entire crew of too-many can go together quite easily. It happened to these guys, and a member of our family was aboard; still remembered into the fifth generation.

It was no great bundle of joy for the Infantrymen in the ETO either. People overlook that we lost more Army Infantrymen in Sicily and Italy than in all the Marine Pacific beach landings combined.

And, of course, the General Officer Chief of Staff of the Second Air Force went down with the crew of an Eighth Air Force B-17 during a bombing raid on the Nazi U-boat pens at Kiel, Germany in 1943. At Eighth USAAF reunions, his name is read off as one of their own.
