Last week, ESPN, often referred to as the Worldwide Leader in Sports, laid off around 100 employees. The cuts were painfully public and claimed the jobs of some of the top talent and most familiar faces at the network. At the heart of the latest downsizing, as with earlier layoffs, is math: The network has committed billions of dollars to broadcast live sports, and waves of cord-cutters now threaten the cash flow to pay those bills. But amid the hand-wringing over the cable giants business outlook, a subplot has begun to dominate the coverage: ESPNS politics.
.
. For several years now, Travis has been one of the loudest, most persistent antagonists of ESPN on the internet, haranguing the behemoth sports network in much the same way that right-wing disrupters have lobbied against the political media establishment. Among Travis biggest gripes: ESPN heaped laudatory coverage on Michael Sam, an openly gay football player, while firing Curt Schilling for a series of incendiary remarks. The network honored Caitlyn Jenner with its Arthur Ashe Courage Award after she came out as a trans woman, and then moved a company event away from a Donald Trump golf course.
And Travis is not alone. National Review, the Washington Examiner and, of course, Breitbart have all weighed in to accuse ESPN of partisanship.
By the end of last week, Deep Root, a media analytics firm that does work for Republicans, published a study that suggested that politics have affected ESPNs audience. According to Deep Root, which matched voter files and set-top box data, ESPNs viewers in Cincinnati were majority Republican in 2015; in 2016, they skewed Democratic.

Apparently there’s less of Caitlyn Jenner now...
“Caitlyn Jenner”
Is that Bruce Jenner’s Sister? or mom??
Don’t forget my favorite - Australian Rules Football. It looks like FOX has beat them out for that sport. A sure sign of ESPN’s second rate offerings.
Too much NOT sports.
Too much ugly chicks in short dresses talking like they know sports - i.e., NOT sports.
Too much lefty crap. NOT sports.
They likely don’t even realize it; being Lefty means you never have to admit you are wrong, you can relocate the blame.
If I tune into ESPN I don’t want to hear about politics.
[ Im definitely tired of hearing about Bruce Jenner and his mental illness. ]
Exactly. And that’s all that it is.
Right there with ya.
1. [michael sam]
2. Then train-engineer dude. (the wreck)
3. Then Obama’s planted rabble-rouser, whatever his name was.
4. Then “let’s get some muscle over here” crazy professor.
Not the best couple of years for U of Missouri at Columbia.
Not so much this past New Years.
How much did it cost ESPN to totally dominate the market that day? And they did it without offering any college bowl games on ESPN radio.
I don't have cable, I never watch TV! In years past the alphabet soup channels would at least broadcast some of their games on radio; ABC CBS NBC. ESPN has a big deal sports radio network as well, but they didn't bother. No doubt they aren't targeting people like me. Or they just spent so much of their resources on pay TV they couldn't afford it. Boo Hoo. We're out of money.
Please don’t take this question as a challenge but do you have a link to something that substantiates that he is actually a Satanist? Clearly, he’s deranged, but this would take it to a new level.
I get sick of ESPN announcers constantly filling the air with their trivia while ignoring what is happening on the field or court. They seem to do everything but announce the game. The women announcers covering women’s basketball and softball do an outstanding job. They spend most of their time telling us what is happening in the game in front of them.
Not the men though. They try to outdo each other with their trivia, or they bring some jock into the booth and blow smoke up his butt for a quarter or more while again ignoring the game. I have had it with them.
I don’t get your point. Are you saying you do or don’t believe people should get gender reassignment surgery?
Transgender is a mental disorder is the implication.
Don’t forget the strong and courageous Colin Kaepernick./Sarc
No it is a fact not an implication.
when you reject God’s assignment of the genders, you worship Satan.
Wow!
Interesting about the inside info from your friend.
ESPN is stupid to get so political. As Michael Jordan famously said, both Republicans and Democrats buy shoes.
And they both watch sports...
Can there not be one area where we all can come together and enjoy something? You would think sports would be one of them.
