As family and friends mourned the death of a 15-year-old boy shot in the head by a police officer in a Dallas suburb over the weekend, the police chief said Monday that new evidence showed the killing did not unfold the way the authorities had originally claimed.
The Police Department in Balch Springs, Tex., said Sunday that the officer, whose name has not been released, fired on a car carrying the teenager, Jordan Edwards, a freshman at Mesquite High School in Balch Springs, because the car was reversing down a street toward the officer in an aggressive manner.
But Jonathan Haber, the police chief, told reporters at a news conference on Monday afternoon that video showed the opposite.

>> And the police write in their report, Suspect said that he was upset at the time of the shooting and should have calmed down. After that, the haul you off to a jail cell.
And your point is?
“And your point is?”
See: Fifth Amendment.
I believe the thread was pulled because I didn’t use the non-descriptive title the local media had.
I, instead, said BLACK PANTHER LEADER was involved in the Dallas shooting.
That should be the Drudge headline tonight. Not sure why.
I don’ think we should go the way of The_Donald with crazy headlines, but getting in the relevant facts int he limited space we have for titles is important. Their show though and their rules.
Apologize if I got upset here tonight.
I live near a police officer that was murdered last year by a Black Lies Matter follower. I see the flag half mast and blue light his four kids turn on every night in honor of his memory. We’re about to have more riots this week when a ruling comes down. But not at liberty to discuss.
Just expect more shootings of police and police murders in the next few days.
And pray!
Yes, PRAY. It matters. And helps.
Is there anyone out there who knows enough about the FACTS of this incident to say something useful? Hate to rely on the NYT.
This is correct. COD is a homicide. Gonna call the death a suicide? An accident? Natural?
The police chief has stated the revised story and has been quoted by several news outlets.
>> See: Fifth Amendment.
Good idea: “ ... nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law ...”
Due process may involve locking your a$$ up until the facts (vs. what the NYT says) are sorted out.
No need to get wordy with the cops. Just say you want to consult your attorney prior answering any questions. That’s it. Short and Simple.
See the note by Jim Robinson on your 12:02 post of the story.
His comment is that the source must be excerpted.
However it looks as if he edited the post for you and left it active.

Thanks.
This is coming down in about 9 hours. Many police friends and family on edge.
What a RIDICULOUS statement. Decompress!
Fire the spokesperson for the DPD.
Possibly they have some very green recruits, I don’t know, but this was not a decision made by a seasoned pro, to be firing into a car load of kids who were admittedly not suspects.
We remember Dallas PD are way down in numbers of cops, lost their great police chief to retirement, and I dare not repeat the numbers of new recruits they are needing. It was high, but can’t recall it exactly.
Good grief! Ask about that take down. Usually, a reason is given when a thread is pulled, right? May be a new mod?
Ok, got it.
Found this in the middle of article in Dallas morning news:
Shooter’s history
The suspected gunman told The News in 2004 that he wanted to empower residents to stand up to the police and fight back as a last resort.
“We’re willing to defend by any cause and every cause,” Brown said in 2004. “If that takes fighting back, Lord have mercy for me on what should happen on the streets, but I’m willing.”
But he also said he wanted to steer away from the militant stereotype of the Black Panthers.
Brown had a lengthy criminal history in Dallas County. He pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated and firearms charges.
Sometimes it seems like being in a car is regarded as threatening to police sufficient for deadly force to be used.

You don’t think a car can be a lethal weapon?
