Democrats say they now know exactly why Clinton lost
McClatchy Washington Bureau ^ | May 1, 2017 | BY ALEX ROARTY

A select group of top Democratic Party strategists have used new data about last year’s presidential election to reach a startling conclusion about why Hillary Clinton lost. Now they just need to persuade the rest of the party they’re right.

Many Democrats have a shorthand explanation for Clinton’s defeat: Her base didn’t turn out, Donald Trump’s did and the difference was too much to overcome.

But new information shows that Clinton had a much bigger problem with voters who had supported President Barack Obama in 2012 but backed Trump four years later.

Those Obama-Trump voters, in fact, effectively accounted for more than two-thirds of the reason Clinton lost, according to Matt Canter, a senior vice president of the Democratic political firm Global Strategy Group. In his group’s analysis, about 70 percent of Clinton’s failure to reach Obama’s vote total in 2012 was because she lost these voters.

If you actually read the article (FR heresy, I know...)

It says that she lost because of Obama voters who switched to Trump this time. Also concludes that ramping-up turnout of Leftist true-believers would not have won it for them. Alienating BLUE COLLAR WHITE VOTERS was the death knell, and only way for Dems to win is to woo them back.

Article goes on to detail internal debate over whether they have any clue how to do that.

That’s what they meant.
Her base didn’t turn out to exist.

Thank you for reading the article for us and so succinctly describing what was in it. Your efforts are appreciated.

These people are idiots.

129 million voted in 2012.
137 million voted in 2016.

Hillary got 65,853,516 in 2016
Obama got 65,915,795 in 2012, so that can’t be it.

It’s where they got the vote that matters.
And who the additional 8 million voted for and from where.

There was only 1 decent 3rd party candidate in 2012 - Gary Johnson who got about 1.2 million votes. Stein got about 400,000 votes.

There were 3 decent 3rd party candidates in 2016 - Johnson\Stein\McMullen that accounted for 6678164 votes.

analysis from here: http://uselectionatlas.org/RESULTS/

Idiots...I hope they keep analyzing for the next 4 years.

It’s weird that the question of whether Hillary is likeable enough or not even goes back to 2008 when Obama commented on it. And then 8 years later it ends up being a decisive factor.

The sales job was just fine, the problem was the product they tried to sell.
You can't analyze that away.

My granddaughter who turned 1 year old a few weeks before the 2016 election will be hearing about “how Hillary! lost” when she finishes graduate school, and then some. It is never, ever going to end.

Nooo..it was Boris and Natasha stuffing the ballot boxes in two dozen plus states with Rocky and Bullwinkle unable to stop the plot. Hillary was beloved by everyone and could not lose except by an infernal Russian plot. (satire)

I thought it was all because we are racist...OH wait. She’s white

I thought we were misogynists. Oh wait. We liked Sarah Palin and admire Golda Maeir and Margaret Thatcher.

I guess we are racist misogynists.

I feel for Hillary.

104% base turnout is pretty low for a Democrat.

I’ve known for a long time why Mrs. Bill Clinton lost. See tagline.

I agree.

Also, maybe the voters figured out what the media couldn't:

Hillary's coronation was supposed to happen Jan 20, 2009, so the party put up a little know senator and a clown against her. And, she's such a terrible candidate, she lost to the unknown senator, and the clown became vice-president.

Fast forward to 2016, and the party puts up some unknown from Maryland, and a 145 year old socialist. And, Hillary immediately starts losing to the socialist, only winning because the game was rigged from the start with super-delegates.

Maybe, jut maybe, the voters figured out that her 'base' is really just the media, a few crooked friends, and some more folks who live in fear of Arkancide.

We “Neanderthals” were explaining why the polls were wrong (Obama level black turnout projections) for months prior to the election.

Meanwhile the political “experts” just discovered this?

They are seriously slow....

She lost because...

1- She had no message other than I am Hillary and not Trump

2- Indentity politics of the Dems have made them the non-white party. This alienated the working class, union group. trump seized on them with. Jobs, Ecomony, Law and Order, no illegals message.

She ignored and had to message for the Rust Belt and that is why she lost.

She has been greatly disliked since 1992. Why she lost to Obama, Trump and lost Bernie (fixed)

The Dems are in big trouble if they cannot win back the working class blue colar voter
