PING!
If you aren’t eliminating whole departments of government, you aren’t serious.
What’s Trump’s position on SS and Medicare?
He should slice medicaid.
Actual discretionary spending is a small part of our budget.
If SS and Medicare remain the same, there will be no balanced budget, i’m afraid
I could be VERY wrong.
Have you ever wondered why approx. 500 of the advertised “best and brightest” Can’t scrape up enough intelligence to balance a budget?
The RINO’s in congress will never cut spending. They love big govt as much as the Dems.
Does not! It takes one second for the A/P manager to walk over and click ‘hold’ or ‘cancel’ the payee. When that payee gets the drift, he quits providing goods or services.
Right now we need a Serial Program Killer, an axe wielding maniac of budget restraint, a man who prefers governance to constitutional means over the welfare of individuals.
It just takes the will to control it. And nobody in Washington has that.
Forget the scalpel and the ax.
Break out the guillotine.
Just a thought :-)
An old steam drill, TNT, and a bigly YUGE wrecking ball.
Which is why it won’t happen.
Put DC back into the chains of USConstitution, or perish.
The sad part, the American people are just as bad as the politicians. They want others freebees cut, but not theirs. If cuts are made, many if not most will hoot and holler and the politicians will give in, the deficits will get higher and the road to disaster will continue. Soc. Sec. needs to be cut, medicaid needs to be cut, federal departments need to be eliminated, number of federal employees reduced etc. Who will stand for that? And the can is kicked down the road for the umpteenth time.
Hopefully, Trump will set an example by cutting back Federal employment and then the States and Local Governments will follow his lead and cut employees.
Overall we have far too many government employees (and consultants) who are paid too much and do too little work.
It will take strong, and short, term limits. The K-Street / UniParty / Big Business bloc is way too strong. Need to weaken or destroy one or two of the legs of that stool.
I’m impressed that IBD has written a thoughtful and incisive editorial. Welcome to the fight, ladies and gentlemen at IBD.
I don’t like these articles that start out with titles that make it sound like the administration still doesn’t get it, and then you read down into the article and it’s quite clear it most certainly does.
Trump has cut funding for some entities. He has also significantly reduced the budget for some departments.
As for this, “If Congress and President Trump want to effect serious change and push for a balanced budget, they need to be willing to make serious cuts to entitlement programs. Reforming floundering programs like Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security is the only real way to make a lasting impact on our federal debt.”, the increase in revenue from the cut in taxes, will make S.S. and Medicare more healthy in the short term.
As for the long term, we need to get on with privatizing them.
Eliminating unfunded mandates is job one, and Trump is the kind of guy that will tackle it.
