Former U.S. vice-president Al Gore is warning against massive geoengineering experiments that attempt to reverse climate change, arguing instead that the focus must remain on cutting emissions that are warming the planet.
I dont think its a good idea, Mr. Gore told the TED Conference in Vancouver.
Mr. Gore said such Band-Aids arent the solution.
We have to stop the pattern of behaviour that is creating this crisis, said Mr. Gore, who was not on the TED program, but was called up from the audience.
There is a collision between human civilization as its presently organized, and the surprisingly fragile ecological system of the earth. The most vulnerable part of it is the very thin shell of atmosphere that were using as an open sewer.

And there is the kernel of truth in what he means. He wants to reorganize our civilization, which means you can’t keep your lifestyle.

Amazing how the Clinton - Gore administration cashed in after their days in office. Each family is now worth $200+ million.

Goodness. I had no idea TED allowed just anybody from the audience to come up and speak.
I hope they learned their lesson.

I’m against doing to much massive modifications to “fix it”, until we know for a fact that there is something to be fixed, and that the fix actually makes things better.
I’m not convinced that an extra half-degree of heat is a bad thing overall. It clearly is for the rich liberals that have populated the coastlines that might lose some of their beachfront property.

More CO2 means more green plants. That and a tad more warmth might mean a lusher nature. It’s not like the earth was designed by an idiot like Algore.

And for the beaches? The urf has reportedly been making them fluctuate for countless millennia. If they move, the wealthy will just have to move too. That’s the urf for ya. Mightier than we are.
