Army vet tied dog to tree, shot it 5 times at close range

An Army veteran was thrown behind bars Tuesday for allegedly tying her PTSD therapy dog to a tree and shooting him five times at close range — killing the poor pup for no apparent reason while a soldier filmed it.

...

Court documents obtained by the Fayetteville Observer describe how she teamed up with her boyfriend, Jarren Heng, 25, for the seemingly random killing earlier this month.

The couple allegedly led the white and gray pit bull to a wooded area before tying him to a tree and taking his life. ... ultimately was shot five times with a rifle as Rollins and Heng, who is still enlisted and stationed at Fort Bragg, took turns filming him.

“Let me hit him once,” Heng can be heard saying in the video.

Throughout the disturbing clip, he and Rollins both laugh and joke about the dog’s brutal death ...

It was her PTSD dog, apparently. So that’s the only reason I can see they would mention it.

Were they actually giggling and laughing or was that bull crap or what? Did they have any reason for recording it and put it on social media or what is the deal with that?

I did not see any giggling or laughing at the actual event. It was a very short clip. I agree that recording it and putting it on the net was stupid, mostly because of the reaction we are seeing.

People record all sorts of stuff they would be better off not recording. I am amazed at the sort of things criminals post all the time.

To consider this animal cruelty is simply insane. To do so is to say that killing an animal that you own is animal cruelty. Then every farmer or person who owns a few chickens will have to hire a professional to have a chicken dinner.

No hunter will be allowed to shoot animals in the field.

Where is the cruelty in such a quick and easy death?

Tell me, how would you have made this death less painful?

Well sure twain, there is no other way possible, right? Take your GD aid dog out, regardless of it needs or deserves to die or not, tie it to GD a tree and shoot it 5 times while broadcasting their numerous quips about how cool or funny it is.

Gezuz, you're an idiot. I was waiting for some lumberhead like you to come along who see nothing wrong with type of behavior. The more people I run into like you, the more I like my dog.

How long was the clip you saw? Why would the NY post lie about this crappola if isn’t true? Seems like it is pretty easy to check.

Yeah, camera phones and social media is a combination that probably isn’t that healthy for society. Bizarre they would put this on there at all, but if there ain’t a video or picture some people think they don’t exist. That seems like a really sick mouthbreathing thing to do, at least to me.

Looks like a “Nylon” 66. They’re lucky one of those bullets didn’t make a return trip.

It looks like a clean kill — first round to the base of the skull.

I saw another little clip. In it the woman grins at the camera. You may be right about the Nylon 66. It is quite dark in the video. I also saw the leg twitches, which is pretty common when an animal is shot in the brain.

Hard to see how an animal could be killed quicker or more humanely.

As for laughter and giggling, I did not see it. But when a disagreeable task has to be done, the people involved often engage in black humor. It is a defense mechanism.

I notice that you did not answer my question, and you engaged in personal attacks.

That usually means you are losing the argument.

Who gets to decide of someone else’s animal deserves to die?

Are you going to sit at every shelter that people dump unwanted dogs at every year, and pass judgment on them?

Many dogs are more likable than many people. What is your point?

How many times do you have to read about “loving family pet” pit bulls with no history of attacking people suddenly turning on someone or some dog? I’ve seen it happen. Of course there are thugs who train pit bulls to bring that out even more, but there are too many cases of “good pit bulls” going berserk. It’s in their nature. Dog breeds have been created by humans for specific purposes by breeding dogs with specific traits with each other. Shepherds were bread to herd animals. Hounds were bread to track. Retrievers were bred to retrieve. Pit bulls were bred to kill. And when they do turn they’re far more deadly than other breeds.

The dog was killed about as instantly as an animal can be killed. It felt no pain and was dead.

I did not see any giggling or laughing at the actual event.

I suspect you have seen a shortened clip of this crime. Indeed, there was a lot of laughing, from the time when she says to him - "tell me when" - he is holding the camera and getting into focus. The dog is looking up at her, sad and anxious. She is delighted, and just can't stop chortling.

She shoots the dog again and again. One of the disturbing features of this crime is that a US army service member can't even effectively shoot a dog at close range. Then they swap roles, she holds the camera, and he goes in and shoots the dog, with a larger rifle, in the back of the head.

Why did your “real man” kill the dog twain? And why did they decide to broadcast it? Is this what real men do slick?

I saw a short clip where she shoots the dog several times, very rapidly. It is obvious the dog is dead.

Then, there was another short clip where someone else shoots the dead dog, probably just to be make absolutely certain that it is not wounded.

I did not hear any sound, maybe the clips that I watched had the sound turned off.

It seems likely that someone broke the original video into a number of short clips.

Maybe they get more clicks that way.

I’m having trouble trying to figure out whether there
is more ignorance or pure callousness on display here.

How would I know? I was not there. I think broadcasting it was stupid, because our society has been so sheltered from life and death that many cannot face reality without trauma.

For people who have never had to kill anything, a video like this may be easily misinterpreted.

I was not there, I do not know these people, but the pile on of emotion for people who do not know them is disturbing. Dogs die in the tens of thousands every day. Many die in cruel conditions, and that is a bad thing. But this death was not cruel. It was quick and humane, at least what is shown in the video.

Real men face reality. They take responsibility for their own. The fashion now is to deny reality and to take responsibility for nothing.

Everything dies. The vast majority of deaths is much, much more cruel than this dog’s death. (as shown in the video)

Lets see, ya don’t know why the lady with the AR tattooed across her chest, who was drinking and then decided to tie her dog to a tree and shoot it to death while broadcasting this?

But you come out in support of these a$$holes and feel this is all perfectly legitimate behavior? Amazing.

If the dog did go bad one shot would have taken care of it and you certainly wouldn’t laugh while filming it. I don’t care who they were, that’s just evil.
