This isn't so much a logistic question about the affordability or efficacy of the wall as it is about GOP establishmentarians finding an excuse to oppose immigration restriction.

When the Republicans majority at the Captial have no problem funding Planned Parenthood, but struggle to build the wall or vote for tax cuts..... Then yes their supporters will flee.
Any Republican member that does not understand this should be immediately recalled and a special election to remove them from office.
Even if that member is luck enough to prevent or survive a recall, then every effort should be made to remove that congressman or woman up to and including crossing over to vote them out.
The message needs to be sent if you sell out your supporters, then your career in Washington is over.
The base will walk from whom? Trump? It seems to be easily forgotten by these people Trump is making the strong effort to push the agenda that got him elected. But with nearly half the Congress so embittered about November they'd sooner see the country go up in a mushroom cloud than deal with Trump, and much of the supposed allies ossified with timidity toward any appreciable change to virtually anything, WTF is Trump expected to do??
