Where NOT to take your prom pictures: The railroad tracks

RALEIGH The state Department of Transportation is warning people not to use railroad tracks as the setting for their prom or graduation photos this spring.

NCDOT is working with the Department of Public Instruction to ask high school yearbook staff advisers to notify students and photographers of the dangers posed by taking photos on or near railroad tracks. The agencies urge yearbooks not to publish any.

The warning comes after a college student and aspiring model was hit and killed by a train during a photo shoot in the small Texas town of Navasota last month. Fredzania Thompson, 19, heard the horn of an approaching Union Pacific train and moved to an adjoining set of tracks, not realizing that a Burlington Northern train was coming the other way.

They also need to warn the kiddies that hot tubbing after the prom in vats of acid could be dangerous too.

It must be a lot harder not getting hit by trains than when I was a kid. We used to look up and down the tracks. Guess that doesn’t work in 2017. Maybe the government will mandate helmets.

Or outlaw trains. It would save a lot of pennies.

Nah! The schools just need to add a mandatory class (common sense 101) to the curriculum starting early with frequent refreshers.

It’s actually Edwards, Mississippi and the Withers street bridge over the tracks has been replaced.

What the hell, do they have a steampunk themed prom?? Why would you use an industrial setting for a prom picture? Go stand in front of a trellis or a flower bed!

I heard that 3 families are suing CSX because their daughters were sunbathing on a railroad bridge and fell asleep, so a train was coming and couldn't stop in time and killed 2 of them and the third had her arms cut off. Excuse me parents, but you never told them that trains can't stop.

The rule taught to railroad workers is that there is ALWAYS a train coming.
