The Chicago Police Department is used to taking some serious firepower off the streets: Glock pistols, sawed-off shotguns, even AR-15 and AK-47 rifles.
Not every weapons bust gets the big guns, though. Take the fruits of a search warrant executed Wednesday at a home on the citys southwest side:

My uncle used to have a leather bound box in a drawer in his library with a pair of nineteenth century flint lock, black powder dueling pistols. When I was a kid, I used to sit in the leather chair next to the desk and play with them.
These days I suppose the police would confiscate them if they knew they were there.
Indeed, when I got older, I made some black powder (carbon, potassium sulfate, and carbon powder, and fired a few shots at a tin can.

Huh, no caps on the brass frame Remington (though I swear that looks like it is a .36...) Sans that, does it even count as a weapon? The Saturday Night Special’s kind of cute; did 15 officers participate in this takedown?

My attempt at making black powder as a kid was less than successful.

The .25 looks a bit like a Tanfoglio. I once had one. It was in fact cheap but was a good shooter.
A store owner I knew had a Colt .22 single action. Not the single action army but still a nice little .22 He told me he wanted a much smaller pistol to keep. I traded him the Tanfoglio for it. I did feel a little ashamed of myself.

The revolver looks like a kit gun - 1858 New Army Model Bison. Don't know who makes it.

I have an 1858 Remington copy with a steel frame and target sights. It's fun to shoot, makes lots of smoke, big holes and gives you a tremendous appreciation for cartridge ammunition.
