Steering to PORT would have been the correct, conservative order. But the DEMONRATS ARE continuing to STEER TOWARDS danger and loss of the ship. They are doing it on purpose, therefore your script is incorrect, they are purposely doing the wrong thing.

IIRC the funnel on these ships is toward the stern so isn’t this the bow of the ship we’re looking at? In that case the port side is awash so hard to port would really swamp the boat. Just as the dems go-harder-left is doing to their boat..
