A POLICEMAN has died and another is injured after at least one gunman opened fire “with an AK47” in central Paris.
Cops have said the shooting, which took place at the central boulevard of the Champs-Élysée at around 9pm local time, could be a “terror attack”.

AK eh, maybe he picked one up at Normandy and just made it to Paris and thought the copper was the Gestapo??

Was in Paris last week. My hotel was one block from the Champs Elysees at the Arc de Triomphe. All train stations, the airport, some subway stations and The Eiffel Tower were being patrolled by multiple 3 or 4 man security details armed with assault weapons. Saw no such patrols on the Champs Elysees. They take seem to be taking the threat seriously.
More news: One terrorist killed. An arrest warrant has been issued for a second suspect in the Paris shooting who arrived from Belgium by train. Officials say the suspect in the attack on Paris police officers previously was flagged as an extremist.

We were in Paris October 2001. Standard patrols in Metro stations 3 soldiers with auto weapons, 1 cop walking as a team.
We did see similar teams at the tower, Champs, and the Louvre.

Is there a law allowing you to walk the champs-elysees with an AK47? Because if not, it could not have happened. Criminals don’t break the law.

Exactly. So I’m wondering why they weren’t patrolling there. Anyplace without those patrols is the first place I’d expect something to happen.
Clarification. These were cops who were shot, so why do we say there was no patrol?

Dunno. He was saying >>he<< saw no patrols there. Maybe they are more discreet there. Though the presence of known patrols can be a deterrent.

This incident is certainly an exception to what the poster saw on the boulevard. My conclusion, the cops WERE on patrol.
