Starting over in a new country is never easy, but for these Americans it was the only choice that made sense and they havent looked back since
It was late into the night of the 2016 presidential election. Or was it technically the early hours of the morning after? Mark Nykanen was up watching what had not yet been made official, but was certain: Donald Trump would become the 45th president of the United States.
The next morning, he and his wife Lucinda Taylor woke up and knew it was time. Within a couple of hours, they made the decision. Within a couple of weeks, their house in The Dalles, Oregon, an hour and a half east of Portland, was on the market.
I just made up my mind, said Taylor, 56. And as soon as I made the decision I felt safer.

In 2003, appalled by George W Bushs order to invade Iraq, they abandoned their lives in the US for a new start in Nelson, British Columbia.
I felt very strongly that the US had turned a corner from which it would never turn back, said Nykanen, 65, recalling the earlier relocation. We made that move not because we feared terrorists, but what the country was becoming.
The idea of moving to Canada is regularly tossed around as a joke of an American exit strategy. Declarations leading up to Trumps presidency became fodder for late night television hosts. Spotify created a Moving up to Canada playlist, featuring Justin Bieber, Mumford & Sons and Carly Rae Jepsen. Maple Match emerged in the online dating world,

Adios MFer’s!
Maybe if they moved to Mexico for a while they’d understand the election.
We can always count on the Guardian commie trash to show us a crap sandwich and pretend that it’s steak and baked potatoes.
I don’t either.
Good riddance.
Right after the election SNL had Dave Chappell guest host. In his monologue he was talking about how Hillary wanted him to pay more of his “TV money” in taxes. Later they did a scene where Dave (as himself) is watching the election with some white liberal friends. He looks incredulous when they blame her loss on “racists”. Then they start talking about going to Canada and ask Chappell if he’s coming along. “Naw, I’m gonna stick around and see how this tax cut stuff works out”.
Yep. Liberals hate “racism” so they move to a country that’s 84% white.
I feel safer that he’s gone, too
No mention of what it cost him to emigrate to the emirate of Trudeau
Why didn't they come back during the awesome Obama years?
Does Canada just let you in, stay until you "feel" like leaving, and allow you to return?
No consequences?
No questions asked?
Just pull up stakes and go back and forth across their border?
Are these people dual citizens, or what?
I can't imagine even Canada being this cavalier with their border.
They have moved to a country that has more restrictions on political freedom than the United States does, but they are the kind of restrictions these people like.
Canada is one of the harder countries to emigrate to. It’s a tough, long and expensive process.
Thank God , they left.
Bye-Bye....good riddance.....by the way, you do realize that Canada’s defense depends 99% on the U.S. military...oh well, sleep easy!!!
Wow !
Canada would cease to exist without the protection of our USA——just l8ike Costa Rico, Panama, etc——they live and exist due to the protections we supply-—screw all the folks who hate this Nation
Well I’ve heard Canada is a beautiful country. God speed and spread the word to your friends and family.
