BREAKING: Jon Ossoff Finishes Below 50% (Another Humiliating Democrat Defeat)

This evening, all eyes were on the special election in Georgia’s Sixth Congressional District as Democrats were hoping to flip the seat that has been held by Republicans for decades. The seat recently opened up after Republican Tom Price left to take over as Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Going into the night, Democratic candidate Jon Ossoff was way up in the polls as a number of GOP hopefuls threw their hats into the ring. However, despite the fact that he was polling in the mid-40s, roughly 30 points ahead of his nearest opponent, Ossoff and Democrats knew he needed to get more support in order to gain at least 50% and avoid a runoff.

In the end, Ossoff ended up pulling in less than 50%, with totals showing him at 48.6% after a huge dump of votes came in from Fulton County around midnight, leading to numerous outlets to project this as heading to a runoff.

“There’s a wider problem here though.”

The explanation is in the post #145.

In the past the dems didn’t spend any money trying to win this district. But in this special election they overspent the gop and saturated the tv with ads.

But they still lost.

Scott Brown managed to pull off a win in that Massachusetts special election years ago without any help. Obama was just that toxic.

If the Dems and the media believe losing is winning, and they want to gloat about losing - I’m good with it.

The fifth-column leftist media sluts, like Lester, David and Scott, will have to come up with some diversionary reason why the Demonicrats went down in flames yet again. Maybe Hellary has some leftover excuses she could give them.

The same phenomenon, wealthier areas not as supportive of Trump as more blue collar districts, holds in Texas. During the 2016 Presidential election, looking at five suburban counties in Texas (Collin, Denton, Williamson, Fort Bend, and Galveston), Trump underperformed Romney four years earlier in four out of five counties. In 2016, while Trump won Collin County, he did so by a 61,000 vote margin out of 358,000 cast, vs. Romney winning the county by 95,000 out of 304,000 cast. The only suburban county where Trump matched Romney's totals was Galveston County.

Other states have had similar results. In 2012, Obama lost Orange County, California, but Hillary carried the county last year. Other states, not so much. The suburban counties around St. Louis, Kansas City, Pittsburgh, and Cleveland saw little deterioration and in some cases slight increases for Trump vs. Romney. In New York, Trump carried Staten Island and suburban Suffolk County, both of which Obama won in 2012.

Winning the allegiance of Never Trump GOP voters will have to center on issues such as lowering taxes and decreasing regulatory burden on the Federal level. Such measures will increase economic activity, which will benefit the affluent. A rising tide lift all boats.

The republicans blew this despite their talking point.

I can’t believe they divided up their vote like they did which means they divided up their money.

They got out of that one by the skin of their teeth.

If that was the plan, then someone should be fired.

The GOP is called the “stupid party” for a reason.

Why the hell did the Republicans run 11 candidates??

The Republican Party didn't run 11 candidates. 11 Republicans threw their hats into the ring. This special election was effectively a primary. The runoff election in June is the real election.

It's all about name recognition for the next (e.g.2018) primary and general election. Whoever wins this special election contest will be primaried next year and those who did well but came up short, will be well positioned to run again.

This is good news, for the R bench is deep and wide. The D(ead) bench, not so much. This was the best they could do on short notice and they wasted a boodle of money getting to a runoff they will likely lose.

Jack Usoff (D-ead end) won't win against a solidified R opponent.

None of this is accidental or without a purpose. And it is not "dumb".

Actually, this is what the founders intended: Citizens showing interest in participating in our government. More, please.

Ossoff’s advertising budget doesn’t explain why Trump only won the district by 1 point from Clinton when every previous R nominee had won by 20+ points.

Huge midnight vote dumps always seem to benefit DemocRats and always seem to come from areas that have large Rat-infested cities.

Sometimes they don’t create enough votes to put the Rat into office.

Elections like this anyone can throw their hat into the ring. So, everyone did. The party could not control who did or did not run, even though they could endorse the best candidate and hope people follow that.

Demography is destiny. Much of the shift you describe has to do with the changing demographics of these counties fueled by mass immigration. We have brought in 35 million legal permanent immigrants since 1990, 87% of whom are minorities as classified by the USG. Immigrants and minorities vote more than two to one Dem. Every year we bring in 1.1 million legal permanent immigrants. Non-Hispanic whites, the GOP base, are declining as a percentage of the population. In 1970 they were 89% of the population; today they are 63%; and by 2043 they will be 50%.

In 1970 one in 21 was foreign born in this country; today, it is a little less than one in 8, the highest it has been in 105 years; and within a decade in will be one in 7, the highest in our history.

In a primary, I don’t think the party has any real control over how many people choose to run for the position.

I don’t like it either at times but anyone who thinks they have a shot at it or just think it would be fun can get their name on the ballot during the primary.

I hope you’re right. Someone seems to have been paying attention and found a way to stop the ballot stuffing that has given the Democrats so many miracle wins.
