'Shattered': Book Mocks Hillary's Kickoff Speech that Author Praised in 2015

Shattered: Inside Hillary Clinton's Doomed Campaign could just as accurately been titled, Shattered: How a Pair of MSM Journalists Inadvertently Destroyed Their Credibility. The reason is that while authors Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes are now somewhat frank in revealing the faults of Hillary Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign, back when they were reporting on it they acted as cheerleaders for her.

As proof we have the first chapter of the book which went into detail on the background of the gymnastics that went into crafting via committee the banalities that went into Hillary's lackluster kickoff speech on June 13, 2015 at Roosevelt Island, NY. After reading the harsh critique of a speech they conceded lacked vision, we shall review co-author Jonathan Allen's glowing review of that same speech in 2015 that hailed its...vision.

First some book excerpts that set the behind the scenes struggle to piece together that speech by committee:

Written by Keith Richards, Mick Jagger • Copyright © Sony/ATV Music Publishing LLC, BMG Rights Management US, LLC

Uh huh shattered, uh huh shattered
Love and hope and sex and dreams
Are still surviving on the street
Look at me, I’m in tatters!
I’m a shattered
Shattered

Friends are so alarming
My lover’s never charming
Life’s just a cocktail party on the street
Big Apple
People dressed in plastic bags
Directing traffic
Some kind of fashion
Shattered

Laughter, joy, and loneliness and sex and sex and sex and sex
Look at me, I’m in tatters
I’m a shattered
Shattered

All this chitter-chatter, chitter-chatter, chitter-chatter ‘bout
Shmatta, shmatta, shmatta, I can’t give it away on 7th Avenue
This town’s been wearing tatters (shattered, sha ooobie shattered)

Work and work for love and sex
Ain’t you hungry for success, success, success, success
Does it matter? (shattered)
Does it matter?

Ah look at me
I’m shattered
I’m shattered 0
Look at me, I’m a shattered, yeah (shattered)

Pride and joy and greed and sex
That’s what makes our town the best
Pride and joy and dirty dreams and still surviving on the street
And look at me, I’m in tatters, yeah
I’ve been battered, what does it matter
Does it matter, uh-huh
Does it matter, uh-huh, I’m a shattered

Mmm, I’m shattered, unh
Sha oobie, shattered, unh
Sha oobie, shattered
Sha oobie, shattered, shattered

Don’t you know the crime rate is going up, up, up, up, up
To live in this town you must be tough, tough, tough, tough, tough!
You got rats on the West Side
Bed bugs uptown
What a mess this town’s in tatters, I’ve been shattered
My brain’s been battered, splattered all over Manhattan

Sha oobie, shattered, shattered, what say
Sha oobie, shattered
Sha oobie, shattered
Sha oobie, shattered

Uh-huh, this town’s full of money grabbers
Go ahead, bite the Big Apple, don’t mind the maggots, huh
Sha oobie, my brain’s been battered
My friends they come around they
Flatter, flatter, flatter, flatter, flatter, flatter, flatter
Pile it up, pile it up, pile high on the platter

I'm drawing a blank on the woman's name -- but the Obama Admin person who went on TV just a few weeks ago and blandly talked about Obama's surveillance of Trump ... uhhhhhh ... you weren't supposed to mention that.

This book about Hillary may contain quite a few nuggets about Democrats in the media and how they cover campaigns. I bet the authors reveal quite a bit more than they meant to.

P.J., you really did well to dig and report this.

It was nice knowing you before you were banned by Humblegunner for not posting the whole blog,

The speech is long. Endless.

But punditry is at least half bluff.

If a writer likes a candidate the speech is great.

If the candidate wins the writer is "right" -- the speech worked.

If the candidate loses, the writer will have egg on his face.

When a pundit says a speech is good, maybe what they mean is just that they think the candidate will win and didn't make any obvious mistakes in the speech.

“...back when they were reporting on it they acted as cheerleaders for her.”

The authors are probably opportunists but I imagine that if they wanted “inside access” they had to praise Hillary’s every word.
