It looks like Atlanta cant catch a break when it comes to traffic.
Just two weeks after the collapse of an I-85 bridge, GDOT will now have to turn some of its attention to Interstate 20 west. WSB-TV reported the highway buckled Monday morning, causing several blocked lanes.
Pictures show a cracked bump in the HOV lane between the Flat Shoals Road exit and Gresham Road overpass, affecting travel into Atlanta. Police say a gas leak caused the buckle, WSB reported.
Earlier Monday morning, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported a chemical spill on the Downtown Connector blocked both sides of the interstate for hours. The spill was caused by an car accident, with both drivers now being charged.
WSB says gas leak
Just don’t understand how there was enough pressure to do this. That looks like hydraulic damage.
>>I lived in Chicago of the North and am here to tell the tale
I lived in Waukegan, North of the Chicago of the North. I even had to live in one of the “Projects” in Waukegan. I survived.
Concrete expands in all direction simultaneously. If that is the center lane, then it just had nowhere to go but up...................................
Amstutz...
Thay apparently did not believe in ‘expansions joints’.
I read that a gas line underneath may be the cause- that would be different than thermal expansion, if that is the case
OH, SHIT!!! I’m going to the annual NRA convention in downtown Atlanta starting on April 27 and was planning to take I 20 into downtown Atlanta. President Trump is going to speak there. Woe, oh woe is me.
Union work...
Guess you can still fly in & out of there.....until the airport collapses, that is.
No expansion joints and a leaky gas line.......not a good combo....................
But what’s the pressure of the weight of the concrete? I’d expect the gas either to stop, or to work its way (eventually) to the sides.
Maybe a spark from a motorcycle exhaust.
They need to check for survivors on the side of the road up to 100 yards away!..........
If lit that would be a geyser of flame alright. Maybe it was until the gas company shut off that pipe.
Where are you coming from? THAT is east of the city.
Just take 285 around til you can get on 75/85.
.
That must be in the middle of a very long straight section.
(Design problem)
.
Don’t fly in, and you’ll never have to fly out!
.
10:1 it wasn’t local rednecks who built the road. More likely a contractor from up north. See them all the time doing interstate work around here.
Ban Peach Trees or something.
