It is protocol. Which side the FLOTUS & the POTUS gets in and out of the car and where they are seated etc; I was reading about this the other night, but I can’t find the link now. The protocol is more than likely based on what is the safest for the President and how the USSS do their job.

Even when he entered the room/area to pin on the PH it seemed no one was walking with. Awkward has to be protocol
I’d like to know. In a regular car the worst place to sit is the passenger side. Not sure about the back area.
