Former Afghan president Hamid Karzai accused his successor on Saturday of committing treason by allowing the U.S. military to drop the largest conventional bomb ever used in combat during an operation against Islamic State militants in Afghanistan.
Karzai, who also vowed to "stand against America", retains considerable influence within Afghanistan's majority Pashtun ethnic group, to which President Ashraf Ghani also belongs. His strong words could signal a broader political backlash that may endanger the U.S. military mission in Afghanistan.
"How could you permit Americans to bomb your country with a device equal to an atom bomb?" Karzai said at a public event in Kabul, questioning Ghani's decision. "If the government has permitted them to do this, that was wrong and it has committed a national treason."
Ghani's office said the strike had been closely coordinated between Afghan and U.S. forces and replied to Karzai's charges with a statement saying: "Every Afghan has the right to speak their mind. This is a country of free speech."

Should have duct taped him to the bomb
No one has ever tamed Afghanistan and we should quit trying.
The bomb, at 21,600 pounds, is not even eleven tons, not all of which is explosive. But, even rounding up and counting it as if it were all explosive, that 11 tons amounts to 0.011 kilotons, hardly “equal to an atomic bomb”. A ‘tiny’ nuke of 1 kT yield delivers about 90 times more energy, and both the atomic bombs, of low yield by today’s standards, dropped on Japan in WWII were more than a 1000 times more energetic.
My position is that Afghanistan should have become a glass-covered parking lot all the way from it’s mountains and valleys right down to its plains. Every frigging inch of it.
It will never be brought out of whatever century it is in and it can never be rehabilitated if the indigenous people there are allowed to propagate themselves.
The Russians wasted precious lives there, the Americans wasted even more lives there in a futile attempt to build a nation where no real foundation could ever hope to be laid. It is the religion coupled with abject unwillingness to learn anything worthwhile, plain and simple.
I give this guy the same credence I will Carter, Bush 1 or 2 , The Bent One, and Bathhouse Barry on matters of national sovereignty/security.
The MOAB kills with the shockwave. If you drop one on an Afghan valley, like we just did, everyone on the other side of that ridge line probably survives unhurt. Nothing survives in that valley, however.
Karzai kind of is forced to say that, considering he is surrounded by kooks. Privately I bet he is happy.
Nah, he lives in Quahog.
Giggity, Giggity!
But seriously: what are our options?
There’s the Muslim Brotherhood backed rebels (under Clinton we were set to endlessly help advance the MB as Obama had)
There’s the Iranian backed rebels
There’s ISIS/ISIL
And there’s Assad ... the guy the left and the MB want gone.
maybe that’s what was in those caves...
You discount the possibility that ISIS could rise to the top.
They need to be dropped in coordinated fashion to create “valleys” between their detonations.
You're a ignorant b!itch, Hamid Karzai. Are all former Afghan Presidents this stupid?
That bomb was nowhere near even the tiniest of nuclear bombs, you misinformed clown.
Go f--k yourself, and when the US drops something like a nuclear bomb on Afghanistan, you'll know it, you dumb bastard...
Drummer Steve Smith
What hyperbole
MOAB is not equal to an atom bomb.
It has about a 500 meter blast radius, zero radioactivity, and zero residual effect.
As the old saying goes, Afghanistan is where Empires go to die.
That's stupid - treason is an action against your own country, not someone else's.
Another scorpion, just doing what scorpions do...
Because it is their nature...
He makes it sound like we nuked them. Does he think we dropped an actual nuke with radioactive fallout? Maybe he gets his news from CNN?
