Delta is letting employees offer customers almost $10,000 in compensation to give up seats on overbooked flights, hoping to avoid an uproar like the one that erupted at United after a passenger was dragged off a jet.
In an internal memo obtained Friday by The Associated Press, Delta Air Lines said gate agents can offer up to $2,000, up from a previous maximum of $800, and supervisors can offer up to $9,950, up from $1,350.

“Well now we now what to hold out for.”

Whatever the amount, get more if you’re already seated.
“When I’m in no hurry, Delta never overbook”
~~~~~~
I believe, as part of it’s business model, JetBlue does not overbook. I think it’s the only airline that doesn’t.
“I bet its airline monopoly money.”
They offered me “Delta Dollars” after making me 2 days late for a conference where I was making a presentation.
My response was “I want cash”
They replied “But you can use Delta Dollars just like cash with Delta. On any route we fly!”
I said; “I will never flying Delta again. I want cash”
I guess somewhere there is an account in my name with “Delta Dollars” in it. I’ll swim before I ever use Delta again.
Are you allowed to transfer your delta dollars to someone else? If so, you should be able to get .75 on the dollar.
I used to fly international quite a bit. Because it was company paid, it was Business Class. Delta overbooked Busienss Class quite a bit and as a result (due to my frequest flying), I was bumped up to First Class. I believe I flew International First Class about 6 times. Twice, I was the only person in First Class. It was wonderful!
Pure stupidity.
“Pure stupidity.”
The market will see what it can bear.
“Twice, I was the only person in First Class.”
Anytime I go anywhere, I’m always first class!
:D
It’ll save them WAY more money than the alternative of having three burly cops violently dragging elderly Asians customers from their seats in such a way as to break a couple of teeth, induce concussion and inflict enough facial damage to require reconstructive surgery. Not to mention having to deplane a full plane to cleanup the blood and make everyone late for their connecting flights.
The free market works. Keep congress out of it.
well now that people know the limit...
well now that people know the limit...
If they announce this, no one will give up their seat until that number is reached.
Yeah, they’re limited to $1350 by federal law now.
But still, they’re not going to get anyone off an overbooked Delta flight now for less than 5 grand!
Yeah, that’ll do it.
That’ll make me forget when they left us stranded in the airport overnight and to compensate us, they offered us some water.....from an aquarium.
Delta makes United look like flying a private luxury jet.
That’s a keeper, for sure.
I have a vague recollection of a passenger who wanted on offering the money (airline offered free ticket; passenger added cash).
I don’t fly that often so maybe it’s my imagination.
