The greatest conservative and libertarian Rock & Roll songs ever recorded
Conservative Firing Line ^ | April 2, 2017 | TK Whiteman

Rock and politics… what hath Charlie Daniels wrought?

While the whining lyrics of Elton John, Green Day, Sting and Bruce Springsteen dominate the charts when it comes to political songs making their way to the charts, there have been more than a few that managed to work their way into the hearts of conservitarians everywhere.

While most of the tunes on this list are openly and unashamedly jingoistic, a few have managed over time and circumstances to easily fall into the small government and/or flat-out nationalistic leanings of many Rock fans.

In no particular order;

OOOPs, how did this one slip in: “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” by The Rolling Stones.

A lot of vintage Rush:

The Trees
Red Barchetta
2112

come to mind.

Billy Joel, poor guy. The Catholic faith bugs the hell into him.

More lyrics from tax man.

“Taxman,” by The Beatles. A George Harrison masterpiece with a famous guitar riff (which was actually played by Paul McCartney): “If you drive a car, I’ll tax the street / If you try to sit, I’ll tax your seat / If you get too cold, I’ll tax the heat / If you take a walk, I’ll tax your feet.” The song closes with a humorous jab at death taxes: “Now my advice for those who die / Declare the pennies on your eyes.”

Way Out Here by Josh Thompson

Our houses are protected by the good Lord and a gun
And you might meet 'em both if you show up here, not welcome son
Our necks are burnt, the roads are dirt and our trucks ain't clean
The dogs run loose, we smoke, we chew and fry everything
Out here, way out here

[Chorus]
We won't take a dime if we ain't earned it
When it comes to weight, brother we pull our own
If it's our backwoods way of living you're concerned with
Well you can leave us alone
Cause we're about John Wayne, Johnny Cash and John Deere
Way out here

We've got a fighting side, a mile wide but we pray for peace
Cause it's mostly us that end up serving overseas
If it was up to me I'd love to see this country run
Like it used to be, like it ought to be, just like it's done
Out here, way out here

[Chorus]
Way out here

[Chorus]
John Wayne, Johnny Cash, and John Deere
Way out here way out here

Our houses are protected by the good Lord and a gun
And you might meet 'em both if you show up here not welcome son

I would suggest “I’m a Boy” by The Who

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3apJAMySqrI

They sing about a boy whose mother wants to turn him into a girl...

“I’m a boy, I’m a boy, but my ma won’t admit it
I’m a boy, I’m a boy, but if I say I am I get it”

Conservative: Country Boy Will Survive by Hank Williams Jr.

Liberal: Fly Like an Eagle by Steve Miller (sad but true)

Led Zeppelin’s “Ramble On” certainly describes something American, something like Huckleberry Finn “we… let her float wherever the current wanted her to.”

And, of course, there is “Sunny Afternoon” by the Kinks:

The taxman’s taken all my dough
And left me in my stately home
Lazing on a sunny afternoon
And I can’t sail my yacht
He’s taken everything I got
All I’ve got’s this sunny afternoon

“Get Off This” - Cracker

Petty little Ayatollahs come around
To judge and stone ya
All we’re trying to do is make a fortune
Yeah, we ain’t got no government loans
And no one sends a check from home
And get this, we’re just doin’ what we wanna

Let’s get off this, and get on with it
If you wanna change the world
Shut your mouth and start to spin it
Get off this, get on with it
If you wanna change the world
Shut your mouth and start this minute

Rush 2112

You got that right!

"It's one for all, all for one, work together, common sons, never need to wonder how or why..."
It's too bad that Neil Peart has morphed into a knee-jerk Republican-hating Democrat—because Republicans "don't like brown people". He became an American citizen a few years ago and declared himself "necessarily" as a Democrat for the above reason.

Can you fathom the abject ignorance it takes to utter such a thing? Can you believe the brainwashing required to accept such propaganda? The stupid b---h—one of the best rock drummers that ever lived, parenthetically—has joined the American political party most directly associated with f-----g Marxism!

Oh, how the mighty have fallen—and I say that as the biggest Rush fan on this forum.

Anyone disagree with that? Who wants a piece of me?

And no, I haven't been drinking bourbon tonight. OK, maybe a little...

Van Zant was a gun owner and 2A supporter. He was not supportive of black market guns however.
