Trump throws support behind Ex-Im Bank

President Trump on Wednesday threw his support behind the Export-Import Bank, a stark reversal of his opposition to the lender during the 2016 presidential campaign.

“It turns out that, first of all, lots of small companies are really helped, the vendor companies,” Trump said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal.

“But also, maybe more important, other countries give [assistance]. When other countries give it we lose a tremendous amount of business.”

ADVERTISEMENT The president’s about-face is likely to anger conservative Republican critics of the bank, who say it has enabled crony capitalism. Many believed that with Trump in the White House and GOP control of Capitol Hill, the bank’s days were numbered.

But Trump said he plans to fill two vacancies on the bank’s board, which could help it ramp up its lending activities.

This is the Uniparty/Ryan position, one which he opposed during the campaign.

I disagree with this, and NO, he's not playing n-dimensional chess. He's just wrong.

Not a good position for Trump to take, crony capitalism.

That is the problem with getting rid of these programs, they always have supporters.

Trump was supposed to be representing the forgotten man, the tax payer!

They have probably promised him JOBS! JOBS! JOBS! if he goes along with this.

We’ll see. I oppose this on principle.

Painful truth is, Trump can afford to move to the center on many subjects. He knows that in 2020 the Dems are going to run some flaming whacko to the far-left of Bernie, and he’ll have our votes no matter what.

Trump has almost surrounded himself with WH staff and some cabinet members who disagree with many of the campaign issues that won the election for him. We’ll continue to learn what impact that is having.

Yes, but the Dems ran Bill Clinton who, whether or not it was total B.S., was able to position himself as a centrist.

Won't happen this time. The whacko base wants red meat.

Local DC conservative talk radio said the hiring freeze was hurting progress in draining the swamp. Negatively affecting his ability to replace Obama holdovers with Trumpsters for the necessary positions.
