Full Title: Tank collector shocked to find £2million gold bullion hidden in the fuel compartment of his £30,000 vehicle
A TANK fanatic got a new model in a £30,000 trade-in and found more than £2million of gold bullion hidden in the fuel tank.
Nick Mead, 55, discovered the five gold bars in the Russian T54/69 while restoring it to add to his collection of 150 military vehicles.
He and mechanic Todd Chamberlain were filming themselves prising open the diesel tank in case they found munitions and needed to show it to bomb disposal crews.
Instead, they pulled out the bars, weighing up to 12lb 5kg apiece.
Todd, 50, said a quick calculation suggested they were worth in excess of £2million.

I am guessing they will lose most of it to taxes.

It was VERY loosely based on a true Gulf War story, but the guys weren't SF, they were line grunts on a run-of-the mill patrol.
They found something like $1 billion in cash --MORE.

I’m sure the Brit govt will pull out some act that denies these guys even a finder’s fee. They will confiscate it all. Then the EU govt will claim it’s theirs.

I worked with some guys whose job it was to cannibalize old govt reconnaissance gear from the Vietnam War. They pulled the drawer open on a light table and found an M60 machine gun. Apparently someone sent it hoping he could collect it later in the States. Quite the surprise.

Probably The Treasure Act of 1996 covers their find. This specific designation of what "treasure" is: "Objects substantially made from gold or silver but are less than 300 years old, that have been deliberately hidden with the intention of recovery and whose owners or heirs are unknown."
