It is NOT cash ... It is in the form of a "voucher"

Not true. Read your contract of carriage. Know your rights.

Many circumstances require the airline to pay you cash, not a voucher. If they offer you a voucher, you have to ask for money instead.

Plus if it is the airline's fault, not something like weather, there are circumstances in which you get paid 4x the price of your original ticket.

How do you think things would have changed while he (correctly) refused to deplane and instead opted to first have his attorney brought onto a teleconference to discuss the matter?

Perhaps the airline should have instead been offering free-of-charge tickets and waved around a handful of crisp $100.00 bills and resolved the whole issue in 60 seconds or less? Not to mention smiling customers.
