Imagine if they’d have tried to knee-cap an LGBT, Minority, Muslim, etc. passenger off the flight. White heterosexual tax-paying male was, will always be the safest victim to select.

All it says is that “he said he was a doctor”.

A PHD in Womyn's Studies can call herself a doctor.

Flying United is like riding the bus. Actually, any on the domestic US carriers are like riding the bus.

Emirates is like what flying used to be like. Pretty Stewardesses, good cabin space, good food.

United apologized for the “overbooking situation” (not forcibly removing paid passengers), and is referring all other questions to the Chicago PD, who is referring all questions to the Chicago Dept of Aviation, who is referring all questions to TSA. TSA said to call Chicago PD.

I won’t disagree with you there. I don’t fly for pleasure any more. If I can’t drive, I don’t go.

I wrote a post which I decided not to post. My question was what kind of doctor. It did not say a medical doctor. If the others were on standby, why couldn’t they wait until a later flight? There is much more to this story.

Every flight is a cargo flight.

My niece flies for United and she has flown back on a competitor before to make a flight. No big deal.

I remember taking a late night flight back to Atlanta - Delta, even - one of their ‘partners.’

Got into Charleston or somewhere in one of the Carolinas (I don’t really remember - Greensboro?) What you describe happened to my flight. The flying crew got delayed and couldn’t make the flight.

The entire slate of passengers on that flight to Atlanta were forced to spend the night in whatever the airlines could piece together at late night.

I’m sure we’d have all appreciated your “whatever city the next morning” comment. Damn near a full plane, frankly. I’d have hated to hear because it was because of some girlish screaming little bitch who called himself a doctor.

Any voucher less than $300 dollars is not worth the hassle. You won’t be saving much if anything on a future flight that they apply vs just booking it yourself online for a lesser rate. $800 is doable though.

$800 would be very useful, but sometimes you have to get from point A to point B by a time certain, and the money won’t make up for it.

******

In my case, I was travelling to the Rose Bowl. Getting there a day later after the game had been played was not an option. I’m sure there are many other passengers who have meetings or other commitments that would negate the whole need for the trip if they arrived a day late.

OTOH, If I were on the return home after a trip, getting back late might very well be doable.

Pay the people who were trying to get onto the plane to take the next flight rather than drag somebody off, geez. I have a PhD in rocket science. That’s why I was able to figure that one out.

A flight attendant is not just some glorified cocktail waitress. They’re not cops but their status is protected much the same as a cop’s. And arguing with one stands to get you in as much hot water. Failing to follow their instructions — to include getting off the airplane — could get you charged with a felony, “Interference with flight crew members and attendants.”

If you don’t agree with what they ask of you, make your case. Calmly. If they won’t be swayed, cut your losses and do what your told. Don’t turn it into a beef until you get off the airplane.

Don’t know the full story here, but I can tell you, from lots of experience, that United is far and away the worst way to travel by air. I avoid them at all costs.

United is a public company. They make a profit. They wanted to move a crew to another city. So they decided to pull passengers. How is this OK. United has lots of money if they want to buy back a seat. They will charge more when seats become scarce. So they should pay more when one of those seats are needed by United. United had lots of options before they drag a person off the plane.

I hope more people do what that doctor did. They should just sit there screaming until they are dragged off. If more people do it. Airlines will never pull another passenger off the plane. Just think how long that flight sat their while they handled this issue.

I agree. There is much to be discovered here. One of them I suspect this unidentified person is not a doctor, or not ‘medical’ and that much of it was spur of the moment hysterics from someone clearly in tune with the art of the dollar that could be had.

“Every flight is a cargo flight.”

You nailed it.

That’s why I never understood why airlines don’t charge passengers by the pound...passenger and luggage combined.

“Sir, please step up on the scale with your luggage”

In the old days airlines would keep ‘upping the ante’ until someone took it... Free flights - vacations - whatever. Now they just call the cops? That’s what happens when there no real competition.
