I think that would have seriously undercut his unpredictability which he cherishes and it would have given all the various Cong factions time to McCain-ize & get their mitts on it. It would have been much worse, and bigger.
It could have been done as he gave the order to strike. A heads up to the military and then a press conference with a few photos and radio intercepts. That would have gone a long way towards convincing me. As it stands now, I am not convinced that we were not played and that did not have to be.

It wouldn’t convince skeptics. Even now, I don’t know whose gas it was. We still don’t know if there were WMDs in Iraq (I tend to think so, cuz that’s where Assad got them).
