Patton had a genius for war. In fact, that’s pretty much the title of Carlo D’Este’s biography of Patton. My favorite Patton quote, delivered at the emergency command conference after the Germans launched the Ardennes Offensive:
“The Krauts have stuck their heads in the meatgrinder, and I’ve got my hand on the crank.”
My recollection is that he didn’t say “heads.” He referred to a more personal part of the male body.
