President Trump said Thursday night that the United States had carried out a missile strike in Syria on Thursday night in response to the Syrian governments chemical weapons attack this week that killed more than 80 civilians.
A senior military official said that 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles had hit Al Shayrat airfield in Syria. The missiles were aimed at Syrian fighter jets and other infrastructure but did not target anything that may have had chemical weapons.
He said that no Russian planes were at the airfield and that the cruise missiles did not target any Russian facilities.

"How would the above-listed choices that Trump has ostensibly imposed upon Russia benefit the U.S. in any way?"
- It puts all nations on notice that we will kick butt if you use chemical weapons.
- Assad has supported terrorism for decades. He allowed Syria to be a base for terrorists. Most of that was directed at Israel. Assad needs to go. Obama's strategy of arming terrorists that were worse than Assad was just stupid or evil, probably stupid evil.
- If Russia chooses option 2, you better believe they will be trying to control Assad and keep him from dragging Russia into a bigger war.
- Russia won't choose option 3. Putin is not stupid.

Would take one for each parked aircraft, if spread out.
Those and a few vital facilities.
Maybe these were old missiles, and cheaper to shoot them than return for update. I heard that once in a different Millennium, I think.

What business is it of ours? Sending a message to despots reminding them that America will step in when they use chemical weapons against civilians is not a terrible thing.
Isnt Syria fighting ISIS?
They are.... and they're apparently getting reminded to fight well, and fight the right way. Hopefully tomorrow we send twice as many Tomahawks at ISIS locations.

Oh, I see from
the article that map came from;
According to the Now Lebanon translation, "[t]he Al-Shayrat airbase houses around 45 airplane hangars, each of which is fortified in a way that prevents any damage if it is shelled or targeted." In addition to the hangars, the airbase features a main and backup runway.
With that information 59 Tomahawks seem about right. That is one huge fortified air base.

It’s times like this that make me ask for whom the bell trolls.
So many generals and patriots at one site can get it a little energized here.
Personally, I hate gas, if this was the airfield that gas attacks originated from.. I’d say MO’ Tomahawks!!

.... Heck ..... I am sure as we speak there are operatives setting up staged events for the media to be distributed immediately to the waiting media to feed the orgasmic needs of the down trodden left.
..... Yup ..... It will probably turn out that the air field that was hit was being used to house homeless orphans and refugees who were raising little kittens and bunnies to sell to the locals to pay for the minimal sustenance they can procure because of the horrible and evil American sanctions placed upon the country.
.... Or at least something like that!!! Stay Tuned to CNN for the latest American Atrocities that the EVIL Trump Demon has unleashed upon this peaceful and quiet world!.

Yeah, almost like somebody told them not to be there.

By the way, you hear all those jet engines?”

Agreed. I have my doubts.
I don’t see how a chemical attack could help Assad, anyway. I can’t help but think it’s a setup by ISIS or whatever the heck they call themselves now.

Trump got punked, it's that simple. That's not an attack on him, it's disgust with his being that gullible.
There's a major downside to this that won't be long in coming. I don't know what, but I do know the same gang in the Intelligence Community who have been after Trump's scalp since he was sworn in wouldn't have been so sure that he had to strike Syria if they didn't know this was going to have a major downside.

No way, 5-8 would be a pin-prick. 50+ warheads allows us to destroy lots of planes and aircraft hangars/shelters. It’s a big airbase.

The War Powers Resolution still gives Trump up to 60 days to act militarily, and another 30 days to withdrawal forces without Congressional approval.

>>Sounds like a huge waste of money to me. Certainly more costly to the Americans than to the Syrians. (Cost around $80 million).<<
The strong message it sends to North Korea and others makes it worth that and more.
