A German couple temporarily lost custody of their children because they were homeschooling them. Now the family is taking their case to the European Court of Human Rights to defend what they say is their parental right.
The parents of four children are appearing before the Strasbourg European Court of Human Rights on Thursday to fight Germanys near ban on homeschooling.
In August 2013, the Wunderlich family had just begun their first homeschooling lesson of the year near Darmstadt, Hesse, when around two dozen police officers and social workers stormed the home using a battering ram, according to the parents and a religious freedom advocacy group ADF International.
The children were initially taken away from their religious parents, Dirk and Petra, under Germanys strict homeschooling laws.

IIRC, doesn’t the UK fine parents for what skrewl authorities consider unexcused absences? SSDD.
Just think...Had cankles won the election, eventually we would be facing the same tactics...
As if the EU cares a wit about democracy. Controlfreaks.
Heaven forbid the little chilluns are not indoctrinated with the state line....
Naziism resurgent!
Did you know Merkel is proposing to impose huge fines on non-government approved speech, and to f**k up social network providers who don’t kow-tow to the government’s line? Just in time for her next re-election!
Merkel is the new Fuhrer, and we should start treating her as such.
[I]t is very clear that in fundamental theory, socialism and democracy are almost, if not quite, one and the same. Men as communities are supreme over men as individuals.I would say they subscribe to the same version of democracy that Woodrow Wilson was a proponent of.
If only they treated their new rape-ugee overlords like that.
Europe looks so sophisticated and civilized. Not like those wild-west individualistic Americans.
"Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition"...
Their chief weapon is surprise.

Whenever I read some douchebaggery like that, I wonder as to the effects that one or two claymore mines aimed at the door would have had on said tactics. And/or a trap door that lies over a metal-spike-covered pit that is triggered by the front door being bashed in.
Is this the same family that applied for amnesty in the US over home-schooling a couple of years ago? I remember something like that, and that the petition was denied.
The mindset that leads to this sort of thing, is the same PC mindset that pretends that all people are simply interchangeable. It is the mindset that is behind the Never Trump loons in America: The Trump Haters.
It reflects the intolerant Compulsion For Uniformity, which has fueled almost every Leftist movement in the West over the past century.
Let us find the resolve to drive this sort of intolerant meddling out of America, even as we applaud those who resist it among kindred peoples.
Germany eliminated exemptions for homeschooling under compulsory education laws in 1938. Still on the books today “in the interest of democracy.” Sounds so much better than “the interest of national socialism.”
Germany has many more problems than this. How about their refugees, rapes, crime, welfare etc.
I don’t think the Wunderlichs applied for amnesty.
There was another couple back in 2013 who had actually won amnesty in the US, but Obama almost allowed them to be deported; they were the Romeike family.
Thanks, I wasn’t sure either way. I also thought that Ptui had them deported.
Memory is not totally reliable at times...
Can’t have their children not sharing school restrooms with immigrants.
Does the ‘near ban’ hold for refugee children, too?
