The rule had never been applied against a supreme court nomination before. There was no need for it. The lower court filibuster the Rats nuked, that’s a different story.

...

Agreed. In practice, today’s change in the cloture threshold is nothing more than a formality.

Flame suit on. This is short term thinking. What happens if a Dem becomes president?

You do realize that no Supreme Court appointment has ever been filibustered? Clarence Thomas only received 52 votes.

The option of a filibuster for Supreme Court only came about in 2003 with a rule change.

The era of Trump is ‘unmasking’ the ways and means of the political class. The political class are the modern day ‘slave’ holders.. and I am not impressed with the muck McConnell occasionally pops his long neck from on any given day. He needs to act like he is really the leader and not a prop in name only. These lord and ladies of the political class took an oath to protect and defend our Constitution.. one does not need a ‘Harvard’ law school education to fulfill that oath.

The "Reid Rule" has been implemented as Harry Reid (DEMOCRAT) suggested.

Besides, they would have to prove that Gorsuch did something to deserve being Impeached

They wouldn't have to prove, prove it, they only have to declare they proved it.

Which is what they would have done anyway, so what is your point? We should allow our judges to be blocked, but not Democrats? They had even announced this is what they would be pursuing.

Although I understand the desire to give the minority some say in making legislation and confirming presidential appointees, that’s why we have elections. That’s why there is supposed to be a fair and honest amendment process on legislation, which got lost along the way as hyper partisanship took over. To require 60 votes on everything is what’s extreme and, although not strictly unconstitutional, is certainly extra-constitutional. It basically defeats the outcome of elections.

I don’t understand the logic of that concern. The Democrats had already announced they would be pursuing the same thing in their expected Dem majority and Hillary presidency. So if this rule had not been changed, and we allowed Republican Supreme Court nominees to be blocked, the only thing that would have accomplished would be to block Republican Supreme Court nominees while Democrat nominees would go ahead and sail on through and full up the Court where Republican nominees would have instead been sitting.

In 2018 they can say to the left” See I tried to stop Go such” and to the moderates “ See, I voted for him” Both ways.

If you look at the vote split for those nominees you see that the dhimmis didn’t need the nuclear option because the pubbies were so accommodating.

Let’s hear the apologies from the Hate McConnell brigade. We were told this would never happen because he is just a RINO.
What clowns.

Are you serious? The president has no role after he nominates a candidate. See US Constitution.

This was no surprise to those who have a realistic, as opposed to permanently pessimists, understanding of politics.

Thanks for the attempt to deflect the GOP victory. You are not going to get a reform acceptable to the Lovers of Losing Caucus.
