Barry, they would have been disappointed if you weren’t gay.
In the past, many celebrities had to “hide” their sexual preferences due to great fears it would adversely affect movie box office revenue, TV ratings or record sales. In 2017, when Apple CEO Tim Cook is openly gay, the stigma is pretty much gone—and in fact, many advertisers openly court the LGBT crowd.
Or Mandy Patinkin.
I think pretty much everybody figured this out in the 70’s.
The guy started his career by touring with Bette Midler playing Gay bath houses.
I’ll just bet that there’s an album about to be released.
It always made me just a little nervous that my brother was a barry manilow fan as well as a flight attendant.
He’s 62 now and it turns out the latter was just him being a fox in the henhouse.

IIRC Barry usually leans more towards the Libertarian party. I’ve heard him criticize the Democrats a lot, too.

To my recollection nobody ever really thought much about Barry Manilow one way or the other, he was just sort of a goody-two-shoes schlocky sentimental song guy that popped up annoyingly on the radio at times, like a modern Paul Anka or something. But, I didn’t know then and don’t know now, any “fans” of his, so what do I know.

**Actually** from my recollection, Manilow has voiced support for Ron Paul and, believe it or not, Sarah Palin in the past. IIRC, he said he liked them because they were people who didn’t go along with the establishment.
