EXCLUSIVE: More than 100 U.S. Navy instructor pilots are refusing to fly in protest of what they say is the refusal of top brass to adequately address an urgent problem with training jets’ oxygen system, multiple instructor pilots tell Fox News.

The boycott started late last week and has effectively grounded hundreds of training flights.

“The pilots don’t feel safe flying this aircraft,” one instructor pilot told Fox News.

Among the hundreds of student pilots affected is Marine 1st Lt. Michael Pence, son of Vice President Pence – a factor that could put added pressure on the Pentagon to resolve the dispute.

Vice Adm. Mike Shoemaker, head of naval aviation, told Fox News in an exclusive interview that the training jet issue is the “number one safety priority” across naval aviation right now.

This is a serious problem. Curious as to why seemingly only two specific types of aircraft are involved. Curious if the same malfunctioning system is involved in both aircraft versus others using different types of oxygen systems.

Seems to me this problem would be worthy of immediate attention by the Pentagon.

Another Port Chicago in the making? Since there’s a hundred of them there’s safety in numbers. One guy stands up alone he’s done. That’s the way it works.

How complicated is a oxygen system? They’ve had them since WWII.

Esp the F-22 Raptor.

It’s a huge mystery.

The old ones just added oxygen to a tank and used it. The new ones that are screwing up are some zippy trendy catalytic oxygen generator system that works pretty well....sometimes. Other times it asphyxiates you or poisons you in a manner that the pilot has a tough time realizing it before they pass out.

But its really modern.

This IS A DISGRACE! We ask our military members to go into battle and maybe loose their lives in the process. That doesn’t extend to forcing them to train with known flawed weapons systems. Seems as though along with rebuilding our military, we need to “rebuild” our Generals and Admirals too. Just home Mad Dog Mattis gets some G2 on what’s going on here, because you can’t be an effective pilot if you don’t train.

And you may recall that a baggage compartment with some of these canisters set themselves on fire and brought down a commercial DC-9 in Florida a few years ago.

Pressurized O2 system vs. newer O2 generators. The former, while simpler, takes up too much space, and probably weighs more.

safety in numbers.

Unless you can prove it was an organized effort. Then you can execute the ringleaders.

The Safety Officer's gonna have my ass!

Instructor Pilots just went through the training themselves, so this is pretty serious.
