Confronted by one of his first foreign crises, President Donald Trump on Tuesday split the blame for Syrias worst chemical weapons attack in years between its Russian-backed leader and former President Barack Obama, as the new American administration struggled to explain what it might do in response.
In a surprising statement, Trump called the assault in an opposition-held town in northern Syria reprehensible and one that cannot be ignored by the civilized world, rhetoric that harkened back to Obamas criticism in 2013 of an earlier chemical attack ascribed to President Bashar Assads forces. Trump said Assad was responsible for Tuesdays deaths, yet also targeted his predecessors failed strategy to deter such attacks.
These heinous actions by the Bashar al-Assad regime are a consequence of the past administrations weakness and irresolution, Trump said. It was a clear reference to four years ago, when Obama failed to deliver on his red line when he didnt authorize military action against Assad in response to a sarin gas attack that killed hundreds outside Damascus.
Obama aides declined Tuesday to comment on Trumps assignment of blame.

“Confronted by one of his first foreign crises”
No crisis at all. Trump is out to kill every ISIS person he can.
“Assumption is the mother of all fu@k ups’.
I think the assumption that Assad’s military did a poison gas attack may well be incorrect. The “rebels” (ISIS, Al Nusra & other Islamist groups) have been known to stage these “attacks” and then blame Assad. Let’s be careful what we fall for!
What “crisis?”
Pretty good thread from reddit on the gas attack:
The Syriancivilwar sub is about the best information you’re going to find on the web about the conflict.
I agree, I don’t think Assad did this. McCain and his so called rebels did this because they want Assad gone to please their Saudi masters. Saudis want an oil pipeline through Syria and I bet scum like McStain prosper if that happens.
Supposedly the gas was dropped by jets. Was this Kurdish held territory? I wouldn’t put it past Turkey to gas the Kurds and blame Assad. Killing two birds with one stone, so to speak.
If it was jets, wouldn’t our military assets have had those jets on radar or other surveillance?
why would any reasonable person think Assad would use WMD on his people the same week the US makes a statement accepting his role? and putting the Russians in a bind too?
Not liking this Trump rhetoric
This attack screams “False flag”
Just like the attack in 2013
>Not liking this Trump rhetoric
>This attack screams False flag
>Just like the attack in 2013
Yep, but if Trump doesn’t attack the media and the Neo-cons will try to crush him on it. Trump’s already given up on trying to implement the foreign policy he talked about during the campaign at least until he has full control of the government.
Yep.
” wouldnt our military assets have had those jets on radar or other surveillance?”
Oh, what a rude question! Don’t you just accept the word of the local head choppers?
That’s what I’m saying. Aren’t the rebels the witnesses that it was Assad?
Nope, don’t believe this crap...
This is John McCain helping out his Saudi buddies to help get rid of Assat and get the oil to Saudi...
McCain and his buddies doing everything they can to start WW3...I wouldn’t even be surprised if McCain and Turkey working together...
Russia and Syria are working together, President Trump is trying to rid Syria and other countries of ISIS...John McCain, Egg McMuffin are buddies with Bagdaddie...
If there are ‘snakes’ it’s McCain, McMuffin and the crew...
And .. has it ever been determined if the poison gases in Syria’s possession were originally from Saddam/Iraq ..??
There was a rumor about it when the USA launched their attack into Iraq, there were all kinds of trucks hauling stuff into Syria.
Thanks for posting. Unfortunately the rhetoric is and always will be that it is Assad.
Evidence of rebels using gas is being ignored I guess
Obama Still has aides who talk to the press?
Trust, but verify.
Agree, I hope Trump does not get stampeded into something quickly without any real facts. The rebels are quite capable of staging something like this and killing a few dozen civilians for effect would not bother them at all.
